The Honest Company Loves Destination Maternity!

Team members from The Honest Company, including Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer Christopher Gavigan, came to visit Destination Maternity’s headquarters last week, bringing along some fun surprises! Christopher and team started the day bright and early to decorate our lobby with balloons and flowers.

Christopher hosted several meet-and-greets with our associates throughout the day, sharing the backstory of some of Honest’s best-selling products, many of which were created as a result of customer feedback. Each Destination Maternity team member received a tote bag filled with goodies including a trio of Honest’s lip balm, hand sanitizer spray and the healing balm- my personal favorite which has also received Allure’s Best of Beauty award. Head over to our Instagram for more photos from this most exciting and memorable day!

Maternity Hacks You Need To Know

Maternity Hacks Maternity_HACKS_2-608x1034

Between being preggers myself and working with so many mamas-to-be, I have quite a few insider secrets to share that will help you nail your maternity look and feel your best for nine months and beyond. Read on for some of my favorite “hacks” and essentials every expecting women needs to know!

When it comes to maternity essentials, a side-ruched tee, cardigan, Secret Fit Belly® jeans and leggings, and maxi dresses are your best friends and for good reason! Not only are they the foundation of a great maternity wardrobe, you’ll be able to wear them after baby, too. They can also easily be mixed and matched together for looks that get you through any season.

A tummy belt is another secret to help you in those first few weeks, when you may want to keep your baby bump a secret. The little piece of elastic and button helps you adjust your jeans for the right fit. Alternatively, a tummy tube or tummy sleeve can be worn low on your waist, over your pants to smooth and support your bump.

For a universal bra with tons of room to grow, look for a maternity sports bra. Of course you’ll want to work in your favorite maternity bra styles throughout your pregnancy, but if you’re looking for a versatile no fuss fit- try a sports bra and try it early.

Did you know that keeping hydrated is paramount when you are pregnant?  Staying hydrated also helps with nausea. For even better hydration and extra electrolytes, snack on pineapples. To beat nausea, pop some SweetTarts®. Trust me, they do the job like all of these tips and tricks! Xoxo, Olivia

A Night With Rachel Zoe

Rachel Zoe Rachel Zoe

Last week we celebrated A Pea in the Pod’s new and exclusive collection with Rachel Zoe in Los Angeles at The Chateau Marmont. The hotel is timeless and every bit glamourous, a perfect choice for the intimate gathering in honor of Rachel and her first ever maternity collection.

Upon arriving, Rachel, who donned a one shoulder black caftan, and husband Rodger excitedly shared photos taken earlier in the day of sons Skyler Morrison and Kaius Jagger. Hollywood mammas and mammas-to-be Jaime King, Casey Wilson, Vanessa Lachey, Tiffani Thiessen, Claire Coffee and Elizabeth Berkley joined the fete soon after. We all indulged in mocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres like pesto parmesan tortellini skewers and parmesan cups filled with mozzarella, tomato and basil.

Jaime, Casey, Tiffani and Claire all wore pieces from the Rachel Zoe Collection for A Pea in the Pod, opting for the Printed Caftan Maternity Dress, Exposed Zipper Maternity Mini Dress, Sleeveless Maternity Maxi Dress and Printed Shift Maternity Dress. I love how each made her outfit her own, really demonstrating the versatility of the collection and how flattering the pieces are on different figures. Casey chose a leopard printed open-toe high heel (totally glam!) while Claire added a denim jacket, for a more playful yet chic statement. Jaime, who wore her hair long and flowing, nailed the quintessential Bohemian aesthetic Rachel’s pieces are known for. Plus, she brought the best accessory of the night by far—her mom!

The party ended on a sweet note with to-go boxes from Dana’s Bakery which included birthday cake flavored macarons, a precursor to another party Rachel would be attending later in the week: son Skyler Morrison’s fourth birthday party!

Q+A with Beyond Yoga

QA_BeyondYoga_1-608x1232

If you’re like me, you need some serious motivation to exercise (pregnant or not!). Beyond the Bump, a luxurious collection of active maternity wear from Beyond Yoga, launched at A Pea in the Pod earlier this year and with its incredibly soft, supportive and flattering pieces makes a fitness regime instantly more enticing. I sat down with founder Michelle Wahler, to talk about the line which couldn’t have been more timely– she’s currently expecting her first!  -OliviaQA_BeyondYoga_2-608x364

O Myers: What was your inspiration for Beyond the Bump?
M Wahler: My inspiration for Beyond the Bump came as I was shopping for active wear with my best friend Lauren during her first pregnancy. Her doctor told her to keep active, to continue running, try prenatal yoga etc., and she was having such a tough time finding anything athletic to wear that was designed for pregnancy. She wanted to wear Beyond Yoga and just size up, but wearing a size bigger was just making her look like she was wearing clothing that was too big for her. I then realized how underserved this demographic of women was, and started designing our first collection!

O Myers: What are some of your favorite maternity essentials?
M Wahler: The Scoop Neck Ruched Maternity Tank Top, Adjustable Belly Maternity Leggings and Long Sleeve Drape Front Maternity Cardigan

O Myers: What are your tips for staying active during pregnancy?
M Wahler: Just keep doing what you’ve been doing. I am a big fan of Pilates and go at least three times a week. Since I’ve been pregnant it has been the best thing I do for myself. Of course, I modify some of the moves, but it feels great to have one hour where I keep in motion, and maintain some normality. As the months have gone on, new people come up to me every week (who are not pregnant) and tell me I am their motivation to get through the class, that if I can do something pregnant, they feel like they should push through it. It feels really nice to have my actions inspire others.
I also feel like staying active and strong will help with labor and delivery, so my Pilates class makes me feel like I’m a little more in control of this unknown event we are building up to.
My other favorite way to stay active is walking. My doctor recommended walking two miles a day, so many nights after dinner my husband and our two dogs go on a nice long walk around the neighborhood. Its great bonding time for all of us and I know it’s good for them too.

O Myers: What is your favorite Beyond the Bump item to wear and why?
M Wahler: It’s a toss-up. The piece I’ve probably gotten the most use out of is the Long Sleeve Drape Front Maternity Cardigan. I have two (one black and one grey) and I wear one almost every day. It’s made from the softest fleece so it’s super cozy, it dresses up a lot of my outfits, and with my constantly fluctuating temperature its easy take on and off quickly versus something that goes over my head.
Every day, I wear a pair of the Adjustable Belly Maternity Leggings and a Scoop Neck Ruched Maternity Tank Top. I love the waistband on the leggings. I have worn them though my entire pregnancy and today I am eight months pregnant and these two styles have stretched to fit perfectly as my body has changed and my bump has grown.
Because we fit test all of our fabrics and designs before they go into the collection, our product development team had special “bumped” leggings created in all of our new fabrics so I could still work out in everything before we approved the fabrics. I have had a blast getting all the fun new styles and fabrics in maternity silhouettes. Because I am testing all our new fabrics, I probably have the largest selection maternity work out pants of any woman! The best was when I got to test our sexy mesh trim leggings paired with my bump.

WINTER FAMILY FUN

Every year my family and I get away to the Pennsylvania Poconos for a fun ski weekend. My husband is an avid snow boarder and my 20-month old son loves being outdoors, so it was a perfect trip for all of us! Hot cocoa by the fire and ski-in, ski-out accommodations were my only specifications.

Since getting away with a toddler can be challenging, we had our extended family with us so everyone spent time with Greyson, leaving a little free time for my husband and I. Luckily, we had some extra hands, but in case you get the chance to take a family trip without grandparents, aunts or uncles, here are some tips on a worry (less) weekend with little ones.

Keep consistency; we packed Greyson’s favorite toys and had them set up for him just as he would at home. I also brought tons of his favorite snacks, and tried my best to keep to his normal nap schedule. Vacations are for special moments and tons of fun, but trust me, letting your toddler off to his own devices and sleep schedule can lead to major (but preventable) melt downs

Of course, packing for a whole family can be a challenge too, but I’ve learned to keep it simple. Lots of layers, if you are expecting or not, are super important! I always carry my favorite Chapstick and moisturizers to keep me hydrated in the cold weather too.  -Olivia

STYLE SESSION // CALIFORNIA EDITION

Style Session- California Style Session- California

It has been a busy few weeks for me with traveling for work, lots of fun events and new posts running on the blog! I was out in sunny California for not one, but two, separate photo shoots (exciting details on these coming soon.) While there, I booked some styling sessions during my visit! It was nice to get a break from the cold northeastern weather and soak in the California sun during the trip.

I also love getting to visit our associates and spend time in our stores! The team and I share such a passion for helping expecting women look and feel their best; it’s nice to collaborate, even for just a few hours. Plus, it’s great to see what’s trending in fashion in each part of the country. The Cali-girls are all about destructed denim!

I worked with clients ranging from 13 weeks pregnant to those late in their 3rd trimester. One of my clients, Flaminia, was looking for essential starter pieces that she could wear throughout her whole pregnancy. She went home with a great assortment of Secret Fit Belly® leggings, AG Maternity Jeans and a variety of A Pea in the Pod side-ruched tees.

It’s also fun to watch women find the perfect shower dress, which I helped another client do. With so many silhouettes and colors, I always ask about my clients’ preferences and start there. I love when they end up choosing something they didn’t expect, like a bright printed dress.

I can’t wait to get back to California for another visit, but check back in soon for an update on my next style session. And please reach out and email me at Olivia@destinationmaternity.com! I may be in your area to set up a time for your personal session too! -Olivia

1st TRIMESTER MUST-HAVES

First Trimester Maternity Must Haves First Trimester Maternity Must Haves First Trimester Maternity Must Haves First Trimester Maternity Must Haves

There have been a lot of new pregnancy announcements the past few weeks: Ashley Simpson, Hilaria Baldwin, Tamara Mowry-Housley and Zooey Deschanel to name a few celebrities. AND also just as exciting, a bunch of my girlfriends came out with the big news too! The texts and emails are flying in from my girls, “What do I need”? “Where do I start?” “My boobs are sooooo big…I need new bras _ stat!”  So, in honor of the latest Hollywood pregnant fashionistas, as well as the lovely ladies in my life who are still in their 1st trimesters or just got through those first 12 weeks of baby bump bliss, I thought I’d talk 1st trimester MUST-HAVES.

Lucky for me, I got to comprise this list with help from style maven and fellow blogger Brooke from Somewhere, Lately. Brooke and her friend Meggan came together to create their awesome blog that documents their love of fashion, beauty and all things cool! It’s one of my favorite destinations for outfit and beauty inspiration. Brooke’s got the cool-girl style thing down! She has an amazing eye and always looks effortlessly chic. She’s a big fan of A Pea in the Pod Maternity and has been choosing pieces from the fall line throughout her whole pregnancy; fortunately I had the chance to ask her what some of her favorite pieces are. She’s sported Paige and DL1961 maternity jeans and tops from our namesake line, just to name a few!

To begin, let’s discuss how those first few weeks are full of emotions, excitement, expanding breasts and bumps! For many women it is also a time where you may not want to share your big news yet. Many women wait that first trimester, limiting the big news to just family and very close friends. So in the beginning as your body is just getting adjusted to pregnancy, you are trying to look and feel your best AND maybe conceal your changing figure.

Now’s a good time to start investing in versatile side-ruched tees, plus easy everyday maternity leggings– Brooke agrees! These are two essentials that will take you through your entire pregnancy, so I suggest adding them to your arsenal early on. I also hate to see women struggling to fit into their pre-pregnancy jeans. There is nothing more uncomfortable than trying to bulge your new waistline into non-stretchy denim. The beauty of the Secret Fit Belly® panel is that it’s invisible. I recommend transitioning into at least one or two new pairs while your pregnancy news is fresh. The fabrics and materials that the designers choose have awesome stretch and recovery so they will fit well throughout those 9 months. The panel is easily covered with your top, so if you aren’t ready to let the secret out, there is no need to worry. Brooke loves the designer ones, but there are so many choices from both Motherhood Maternity and A Pea in the Pod.

Keeping comfortable is key! So is having a wardrobe that can transition with you through the trimesters. Maternity yoga pants are another great idea to keep you looking cute and comfortable. For bloggers like Brooke, this cosiness is necessary, since sitting down for long periods of time can be so uncomfortable, especially when expecting! A luxe maternity sweater is another good choice that is soft, has an easy fit, can grow with you and is super chic in any wardrobe. Together, this look works year round.

Maternity bras are critical additions. Your bust-line may continue to grow and perhaps will become sensitive, so switching to super soft seamless styles and sleep bras in the beginning can be a life saver. AGAIN comfort is KEY!

Brooke and I both agree on these last 3 important pieces. Keeping hydrated by drinking lots of H2O is extremely vital for you and baby. Throw a Tummy Tube in your wardrobe to help smooth out your waistline, if you aren’t wearing the Secret Fit Belly® panel. It’s great for added bump support too. And lastly, keep cozy in comfy maternity maternity pajamas. You may feel tired during that first trimester due to the changes that your bodies (and hormones) are creating! So try to relax, put your feet up, and feel the best you can while looking amazing too.

Congrats to my girls and to anyone who is newly pregnant! xoxo- Olivia
