Our new A Pea in the Pod store in Aventura Mall is now open and I spent a few days in Miami to mark the occasion. My first stop was a visit to 6 In the Mix for a fashion segment on holiday maternity looks. Anchor Roxanne Vargas, who is currently expecting her second child, and three local Miami mamas-to-be modeled some of the key trends for the season: the maternity maxi dress, tuxedo detailing, winter florals and sequins. Check out the segment below.
At our store opening celebration, moms-to-be shopped all these great looks and more, including AG Jeans, 7 For All Mankind, Splendid, BCBG, and Rachel Pally while enjoying mini cupcakes from Bunnie Cakes! If you are in the Philadelphia area, I hope you’ll join me for our next styling event at the Destination Maternity at Liberty Place. –Olivia

Hanging with family, enjoying delicious food and snuggling up to watch football make Thanksgiving a holiday favorite. For a look that is chic, comfortable and works for any setting, start with a maternity skinny jean with the Secret Fit Belly® panel and a cozy cable sweater. A classic camel coat, metallic touches and a wine-hued nail are sophisticated extras that finish off the look. For an extra festive finish, go with a Thanksgiving themed or NFL tee! -Olivia

You may think you should put off shopping until you are in your second trimester. However, in the earliest stage of pregnancy, you might struggle with trying to conceal your bump as you wait to announce the big news to friends, family and coworkers. But you don’t have to feel uncomfortable in your clothes! The key is to introduce new pieces to your wardrobe early on that will transition with you throughout EVERY trimester. Here are the pieces to help you through the first trimester and some styling secrets for getting through those first few months and beyond:
Easy Tops: Opt for tops and tees that have a flowing or A-line shape since the silhouette skims away from the body. Pair with skinny jeans or leggings and a cute boot.
Drapey Jackets + Vests: Long live the drapey jacket. It’s super chic when worn open over a 3rd trimester bump or totally works with a tiny belly too, concealing your midsection if you aren’t ready to announce yet. Not to mention, you’ll still be able to work a drapey jacket or vest after baby, too!
Flowing Dresses: Meet your new best friend! Loose dresses are not only an easy-to-wear silhouette, but they are uber comfy and an instant outfit maker. Tip: Choose a pattern for even more modesty.
Leggings: You’ll live in leggings, and since the Secret Fit Belly® stretches with your expanding bump, add them into your wardrobe early! Longer tops and tunics pair perfectly with a legging. Button down shirts do an especially good job of concealing a bump early on.
Long Cardigans: Cardis, especially in the Fall and Winter, are a total lifesaver if you are expecting. The long line look is completely flattering and works for every stage of pregnancy.

Rosie Pope has launched a nursing collection and A Pea in the Pod® is the first to have it! The designer, author, educator and mom of four, truly understands what new moms need, so you’ll completely appreciate this expertly designed line of nursing bras.“Who doesn’t want a little bit of pretty when you haven’t had a chance to wash your hair in days?” asks Rosie. “After having four babies, I know breastfeeding is not always easy and the more support you can get, the better chance of success. I designed a nursing collection that supports your choice, in the most practical, comfortable and flattering way, because as moms I think we deserve the best!”
Rosie Pope Maternity Nursing Bras each contain a clip down nursing feature, smoothing technology and feminine detailing, combining both pretty and practical together. With additional hooks, eyes and moisture-wicking fabric that dries quickly, these bras can do it ALL from accommodating your ever-changing breast size and weight change, to minimizing leak marks. Adding these bras into your new mom arsenal is a must!
You’ll find the full collection in select stores and online. I think you’ll love them. -Olivia

Bundling up is a TOTAL MUST during the winter months. If you are a mom-to-be that means lots of super soft, warm yet breathable layers. Trying new trends is also a great idea, even with a bump. Read on for my top winter picks your closet needs now and ways to wear some of the trends of the season.
Start your winter wardrobe with mom-to-be basics that are anything but boring; a ponte legging with Secret Fit Belly®, lightweight sweater and vest can easily be styled differently all season long. Add a chunky goes-with-everything bootie and you have the perfect winter weekend look.
Layering is essential! The statement cardi is one of the biggest trends of the season and completes a look over jeans or dresses. Plus it keeps you and your bump cozy and warm.
Cold weather means bundling up when you are outdoors. A maternity puffer coat is a must-have! Choose one for warmth, but in a soft color and with feminine seaming that hugs your curves; you’ll love the way you look (and feel).Plaid is another must-have for the season. Opt for a plaid print maternity dress, shirt, or better yet, keep warm in a chic wrap coat. In a neutral palette, a plaid coat is totally fun, but still goes with everything. Pop it with a colored scarf and sleek over-the-knee boots to keep it sophisticated.

My trip to Chicago last week for a style session was quick but fun! My first stop was a visit to Bright Pink, the Chicago-based charity which focuses on educating young women on early detection for Breast and Ovarian Cancers. It was awesome getting to tour the team’s all pink office space!
My co-host Bright Pink CEO Lindsay Avner and I later spent the afternoon shopping with clients at the A Pea in the Pod at Water Tower Place and chatting with them about all things children, health, and great Chicago food! Moms-to-be were looking for everything from Secret Fit Belly denim to office-appropriate dresses. However, sweaters were the most requested since it was a brisk 46 degrees that morning! A Vince frayed edge cardigan, sweater vest and Joie’s wool blend turtleneck were just a few of the pieces snapped up by mamas who shopped to support Bright Pink.
I hope to get back to Chicago soon, but if you are expecting this winter and live in the area, visit the amazing team at Water Tower Place for all of your cold weather mom-to-be essentials! Let me know where I should visit next. –Olivia

Layering up is a cold weather must and also a trend for the season. For a mom-to-be, it’s important to layer with pieces that are light, breathable and that can be peeled away when indoors, like chunky cardis or ponchos. For a bump-flattering finish, pair these IT pieces over slim-line knits. Start with a legging, tank and long sleeve tee and pop the look with a suede bootie, felt hat, leather duffle, dark shades and edgy cuff. Even with a neutral palette, the look is anything but boring when you mix different textures and the right accessories. -Olivia

Alanna Masterson, known for her role as Tara Chambler on AMC’s The Walking Dead, is expecting her first child! The actress chose a Pam and Gela dress to walk the red carpet of the show’s Season Six premiere. The version of this dress available at A Pea in the Pod is fit especially for a mom-to-be. Alanna styled it up with black tights and studded boots, giving this look some edge. For a more casual outing to the pumpkin patch, she sported another printed P+G design. I’m loving this mama’s style! –Olivia
