5 Maternity Trends You Need To Try Now

Jewel tones and ‘70s retro vibes are everywhere right now and our Fall collections are no exception! Here are my top 5 trends for mamas-to-be to try this Fall:
PP_Fall15_08-0958_RT-flt_72Embracing your bump with a knit maternity dress that hugs your new curves is a DO in my book. I’m happy to say this trend shows no sign of slowing down any time soon! PP_Fall15_05-0734_RT-flt_725For those who prefer more flowy styles, the maternity poncho  is making a comeback for Fall in a big way. You can pair it with a maternity flare jean for a completely bohemian look. Bonus: the poncho doubles as a great nursing cover when your babe arrives!
PP_Fall15_11-1503_RT-flt_725Reds like scarlet, bordeaux and marsala, the pantone color of the year, are all trending for the season. Mixing the shades in a complete look is totally of the moment. Think a wine lip with a red maternity top or tonal print dress like this gorgeous Seraphine Maternity Dress.
PP_Fall15_07-0830_RT-flt_300TSpeaking of prints, florals are hot for Fall. For a modern take that gives this feminine trend a bit of edge opt for a floral maternity blouse or maxi like this Jessica Simpson maternity maxi  where the print is set against a dark color like black.PP_Fall15_09-1182_RT-flt_72The outerwear piece taking center stage is the vest; it’s a great transitional piece that works well into the Fall.

Ease Morning Sickness Naturally

Chances are #morningsickness is showing up on more than just your Instagram feed during the VMAs. When I was pregnant with my son, I had a serious case of the queasies during my first trimester, and thankfully, I was able to quell it without needing a prescription.
5For those of you looking for a way to potentially alleviate an upset stomach and nausea during pregnancy, Preggies Pop Drops are all-natural gluten free lozenges that are a sweet and convenient to carry with you. If you prefer something you can sip on, you can try Anna Naturals Keep It Down Pregnancy Tea, new to our stores and online. Organic ginger and organic chamomile are blended with spearmint and lavender for a soothing or refreshing cup of tea—you can make it hot or iced—that’s quite delicious and safe for pregnancy. PLUS it is 100% caffeine free.

Would love to know your tips for handling morning sickness; share them in the comments below! xoxo, Olivia

Boston Bump Roundup

2IMG_8914After a rough start due to travel delays, I finally arrived in Boston late Friday morning! Running short on time, I made a quick lunch stop at Sweet Green and then headed right to our Newbury Street A Pea in the Pod for an afternoon of styling with local mamas-to-be. Each one was looking for something different, including the perfect pair of maternity jeans, a stand out shower dress or go-with-everything tees.

Saturday started off at a fabulous breakfast spot called Tatte Bakery that I discovered in Beacon Hill. I definitely recommend this place; they have the most delicious pastries! Then it was on to Destination Maternity’s Natick store for another fun day of styling! Brooke, a Mama Mio skincare expert—who is also expecting!— was on hand to give mini massages and talk skincare with moms-to-be. I helped Brooke start her maternity wardrobe with a few key pieces that are perfect for early on as well as later in your pregnancy like a striped A-line tunic that can be styled up or down.9Two tips I share with all of my clients are: wear what makes you feel comfortable and also shop early, since most pieces transition with you through every trimester!

I am looking forward to my next maternity styling tour in Cali next month. Stay tuned for dates! -Olivia

Rachel Zoe’s Back to School Guide for Moms + Tots

Guest Editor: Rachel Zoe, Stylist, Editor and Designer

Vacations are winding down which means back to school for moms and moms-to-be everywhere! Who better to help get us back into the grind than fashion maven and mom of two adorable boys Rachel Zoe? Read on for her tips on how to simplify your daily routine—but still look amazing!—plus she shares her essentials for both moms-to-be and kids, too!rachel zoe fall fashion style tips v1From Rachel:

I always tell women, no matter how busy your day is, take an extra 5 minutes when getting ready to make yourself feel glamorous.  Looking and feeling your best can be as easy as putting on a coat of mascara, adding a little lipstick or simply layering a bold accessory into your look.  Keep your overall outfit effortless and chic – a black maxi dress is always good place to start.

Invest in a hat that you love, a bold necklace that makes a statement, or a cozy scarf to tie your look all together. I live in tall platform heels, but they aren’t for every woman. If you’re looking for a little height, opt for a block heeled bootie instead – you’ll be stable on your feet yet still get those extra inches you weren’t exactly born with!  Here are some of my favorite fall pieces for a mom-to-be and their kids:

FOR MOM

It’s also important to keep your ensemble uncomplicated and use accessories to elevate your look. A black dress, your favorite jeans, even an effortless shirt dress are perfect pieces to start with. Try these pieces: Short Sleeve Maternity Top  // Wool Fedora // Leather Ankle Booties // Pendant Necklace // Maternity Maxi Dress // Secret Fit Belly Ponte Maternity Pants

FOR TOT

Cozy cardis, cool prints and earth tones are fall must-haves for your little boy or girl. Try these pieces: Navy Pea Coat // Moccasins // Brown Horse Backpack // Suede Boots // Feather Onesie // Shearling Sweater

Labor Day Weekend Bump Style

labor day summer maternity outfitdark ankle jean  paired with a simple maternity tank or maternity maxi  like this Rachel Zoe bandana-print dress can both be styled to perfection for a Labor Day BBQ or party! For either look, just layer on gold accessories, a tortoise shade and a pop of deep red for a touch of Americana. Even with summer coming to a close, navy, reds and metallic touches work well any season, so you’ll get mileage out of these pieces moving into fall.

How will you be styling your bump for the unofficial last weekend of summer? -Olivia

Lady&Prince on Family, Marriage and Baby No.3

Guest Editor: Marissa Kraxberger, Creative Director and Blogger at Lady & Prince

When I tell people that we are pregnant with baby #3 the response is always the same–wow, you must be crazy. I work full time as a creative director in the fashion industry in NYC and my husband is a full time photographer. We may be a little crazy, but ultimately we are crazy in love with each other and with being parents. Our daughter, Alexa, is 5 and our son, Hayden, is 4 and we live in Brooklyn–DUMBO to be specific.  It helps that both of us are passionate about all that we do–including raising our kids in this crazy city!ladyandprince-x-nathankraxphoto-1When Nate and I were getting married–11 years ago this September–we always knew that we wanted to have 2-3 kids. When we moved to New York City and started having kids we weren’t so sure about the idea of a third. The rational side of us said, we don’t have enough money… we will be outnumbered… we can’t all fit in one taxi–for a while that was an actual deal breaker! However, over time we just kept feeling the itch and one day we –pretty unexpectedly–found out we were pregnant! I was in an initial state of shock, but Nate was grinning ear to ear. Now we couldn’t be more excited. The kids are over the moon and want to kiss and hug my belly all the time. They are always talking about what they are going to teach the baby when he or she is born. We know it will be mayhem, but our life is already mayhem and amidst the mayhem the best part is that we have these two beautiful children that we adore so we are so excited to add one more to our every crazy life.ladyandprince-x-nathankraxphoto-2One thing that Nate and I committed to since the day we found out we were pregnant with Alexa was to continually work on our relationship. We believe that when we are happy, connected, and in love that our children will be happier and grow up to understand what real love looks like. This takes work no matter how much you love someone. We make an effort to take a short trip together every year and always have since the kids were born. It is hard to leave the kids, but once we get away we always realize how necessary it is to have alone time together. We have once a week date nights… even when we are too busy and we feel like it’s a luxury that maybe we should cut back on, we always realize once we are out the tremendous value it adds to our relationship. The one thing we never did was imagine that it would be easy, we have always been realistic that as we grow we change and the most important thing is that we grow and change together.ladyandprince-x-nathankraxphoto-3I’ve been having a lot more fun dressing for maternity this time around. I am fully embracing the bump and love wearing tight dresses (like the Isabella Oliver floral elbow sleeve shirt dress or this Nicole Miller Cap Sleeve Dress). I think being pregnant is such an amazing blessing in life and truly a time to embrace all aspects of your femininity. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t feel like this everyday and some days I feel larger and heavier than I would like, but I always try to remember that this time is so fleeting and I want to enjoy as much of it as possible. On the weekends I tend to dress a bit more casual. I love simple maternity tank tops with maternity jeans by AG–they are so comfortable!

Rachel Zoe’s Vacation Essentials

Guest Editor: Rachel Zoe, Stylist, Editor and Designer

Whether it’s a parents-only weekend trip to Positano or a family excursion to The Hamptons, Rachel Zoe travels in style and clearly knows how to pack. She shared her list of vacation essentials for the mom-to-be with us exclusively so keep reading!
From Rachel:

For me, summer is synonymous with the beach – Malibu, The Hamptons, St. Barths.  Some of my favorite memories are from the Hamptons with my family; we go to local farm stands for organic produce. My husband and I like to dine at Tutto Il Giorno in Sag Harbor and The Palm in East Hampton. Plus, we have evening bonfires with friends on the most beautiful beaches.  It’s a home away from home for us and I love watching my boys grow up there. I pack all my must-haves when traveling, but easy styles were my go-to when pregnant. So, here are some of my vacation essentials for a mom-to-be:RachelZoe_SummerHigh to Low Maternity Dress: When it comes to personal style, everything has to have an effortless glamour about it.  I always want to be comfortable…never wearing anything too fitted, so I can move around with my kids.  I think that’s why every woman, pregnant or not, should have a dress like the printed high-low maternity dress from my A Pea in the Pod summer collection.  It needs nothing more than a pair of ankle-wrap flat sandals, sunnies for daytime and a little denim jacket for a warm summer night.

Ruched Maternity Maxi Dress: It’s no secret that every woman needs a little black dress in her wardrobe.  Whether you prefer mini, midi or maxi, embrace your bump and show off your figure in a dress that is ruched at the waist.  With its open neck and tassel detail, this dress is effortlessly elegant all on its own.  Complete your ensemble for the perfect date night by adding a pair of block-heeled sandals and leather biker jacket.

Secret Fit Belly Zip Maternity Jeans: Stretch indigo denim is timeless and transitions seamlessly from season to season.  Being a mom means juggling a million and one things at once, so versatility is key.  For everyday casual cool, pair them with flat loafers, a white tee and a tailored blazer; they are the perfect accessories for daytime around town.  For a bit of bohemian glamour, opt for an airy tunic, long pendant necklace and metallic sandals to give your otherwise casual denim a punch of free-spirited edge.

Style Solutions for your Third Trimester

The last few months of pregnancy can be the most exciting AND the most challenging. However, dressing in your third-trimester doesn’t have to be a struggle! I recently had a style session with Jill and Kristen, who are both now in the last stage of their pregnancies and who you’ll recognize from We’re Expecting Too and last month’s Gender Reveal post. I was excited to help the girls choose some new pieces and share some styling tips for dressing in the last trimester. Check out the looks we chose and get some style inspo!
Shop Designer Maternity JeansRachel Zoe Sleeveless Printed High-low Maternity Dress Rachel Zoe Jersey Knit Striped Maternity TopI chose these two looks first because the silhouettes are simple, flattering and comfortable- all essential in the third-trimester! This A-line Rachel Zoe dress that Jill is wearing skims the body and is lightweight and breezy, perfect for this time of year. For Kristen, a maternity tunic paired with a denim legging is polished but uber comfy, too, since both pieces are stretchy and breathable.
Jessica Simpson 3/4 Sleeve Tie Front Maternity BlouseFinding an outfit with a slight cinched-in waist creates a nice shape, especially with a bump. We opted for this Jessica Simpson maternity top with a drawstring tie to give Jill added definition. This trick works throughout your whole pregnancy, but even more so toward the end, when the bump is at its biggest!
Bailey 44 Sleeveless Maternity DressA peasant top and maternity jean short are perfect for summer, as well as when you are further along. Look for a short with a little spandex and a Secret Fit Belly®, like this cut-off version, so it’s soft on your tender belly. A maxi dress, like the one Kristen is wearing by Baily 44, is another essential summer piece that gives you a complete, yet comfortable look and feel.
Shop Maternity Maxi DressesDaniel Rainn Short Sleeve Open Front Maternity KimonoA breezy blouse and kimono kaftan are also must-haves in my book once your bump has popped! I opted for this airy Sjobeck blouse paired with cropped maternity AG jeans for Jill and kimono kaftan, maternity top and short for Kristen. These work so well, since again it’s about style AND comfort. Keep the silhouette short or slim on the bottom when wearing a flowy top.
Sjobeck Cap Sleeve Back Interest Maternity BlouseSplendid Back Interest Maternity Tank TopLastly, accessorizing is an easy and simplistic way to accentuate a maternity look. Try a hat, scarf, cross-body bag, necklaces and stacked bracelets to complete your outfit. These additions help speak to your own signature style.

Are you in your third-trimester? Tell me some of your favorite maternity pieces! –Olivia

Trend Alert // The Floral Dress + Garden Party Flair

TrendAlert-GardenFloral, lace and pretty pastel colors are key trends for summer! When incorporating them into your look, the trick is balancing the ultra-feminine pieces and colors with edgier accessories. For example, pairing this A Pea in the Pod floral maternity dress with a clutch featuring sleek hardware or layering in metallic jewelry. That fresh combination keeps the trend modern, without being too girly. While perfect for a summer soiree, these pretty pieces can find multiple uses and complement the rest of your maternity wardrobe. Looking for a fun way to embrace the trend and get together with friends? Throw a glam garden party and you’ll already know what to wear! Happy styling! –Olivia
