Whether it’s a parents-only weekend trip to Positano or a family excursion to The Hamptons, Rachel Zoe travels in style and clearly knows how to pack. She shared her list of vacation essentials for the mom-to-be with us exclusively so keep reading!
For me, summer is synonymous with the beach – Malibu, The Hamptons, St. Barths. Some of my favorite memories are from the Hamptons with my family; we go to local farm stands for organic produce. My husband and I like to dine at Tutto Il Giorno in Sag Harbor and The Palm in East Hampton. Plus, we have evening bonfires with friends on the most beautiful beaches. It’s a home away from home for us and I love watching my boys grow up there. I pack all my must-haves when traveling, but easy styles were my go-to when pregnant. So, here are some of my vacation essentials for a mom-to-be:High to Low Maternity Dress: When it comes to personal style, everything has to have an effortless glamour about it. I always want to be comfortable…never wearing anything too fitted, so I can move around with my kids. I think that’s why every woman, pregnant or not, should have a dress like the printed high-low maternity dress from my A Pea in the Pod summer collection. It needs nothing more than a pair of ankle-wrap flat sandals, sunnies for daytime and a little denim jacket for a warm summer night.
Ruched Maternity Maxi Dress: It’s no secret that every woman needs a little black dress in her wardrobe. Whether you prefer mini, midi or maxi, embrace your bump and show off your figure in a dress that is ruched at the waist. With its open neck and tassel detail, this dress is effortlessly elegant all on its own. Complete your ensemble for the perfect date night by adding a pair of block-heeled sandals and leather biker jacket.
Secret Fit Belly Zip Maternity Jeans: Stretch indigo denim is timeless and transitions seamlessly from season to season. Being a mom means juggling a million and one things at once, so versatility is key. For everyday casual cool, pair them with flat loafers, a white tee and a tailored blazer; they are the perfect accessories for daytime around town. For a bit of bohemian glamour, opt for an airy tunic, long pendant necklace and metallic sandals to give your otherwise casual denim a punch of free-spirited edge.

The last few months of pregnancy can be the most exciting AND the most challenging. However, dressing in your third-trimester doesn’t have to be a struggle! I recently had a style session with Jill and Kristen, who are both now in the last stage of their pregnancies and who you’ll recognize from We’re Expecting Too and last month’s Gender Reveal post. I was excited to help the girls choose some new pieces and share some styling tips for dressing in the last trimester. Check out the looks we chose and get some style inspo!
I chose these two looks first because the silhouettes are simple, flattering and comfortable- all essential in the third-trimester! This A-line Rachel Zoe dress that Jill is wearing skims the body and is lightweight and breezy, perfect for this time of year. For Kristen, a maternity tunic paired with a denim legging is polished but uber comfy, too, since both pieces are stretchy and breathable.
Finding an outfit with a slight cinched-in waist creates a nice shape, especially with a bump. We opted for this Jessica Simpson maternity top with a drawstring tie to give Jill added definition. This trick works throughout your whole pregnancy, but even more so toward the end, when the bump is at its biggest!
A peasant top and maternity jean short are perfect for summer, as well as when you are further along. Look for a short with a little spandex and a Secret Fit Belly®, like this cut-off version, so it’s soft on your tender belly. A maxi dress, like the one Kristen is wearing by Baily 44, is another essential summer piece that gives you a complete, yet comfortable look and feel.
A breezy blouse and kimono kaftan are also must-haves in my book once your bump has popped! I opted for this airy Sjobeck blouse paired with cropped maternity AG jeans for Jill and kimono kaftan, maternity top and short for Kristen. These work so well, since again it’s about style AND comfort. Keep the silhouette short or slim on the bottom when wearing a flowy top.
Lastly, accessorizing is an easy and simplistic way to accentuate a maternity look. Try a hat, scarf, cross-body bag, necklaces and stacked bracelets to complete your outfit. These additions help speak to your own signature style.

Floral, lace and pretty pastel colors are key trends for summer! When incorporating them into your look, the trick is balancing the ultra-feminine pieces and colors with edgier accessories. For example, pairing this A Pea in the Pod floral maternity dress with a clutch featuring sleek hardware or layering in metallic jewelry. That fresh combination keeps the trend modern, without being too girly. While perfect for a summer soiree, these pretty pieces can find multiple uses and complement the rest of your maternity wardrobe. Looking for a fun way to embrace the trend and get together with friends? Throw a glam garden party and you’ll already know what to wear! Happy styling! –Olivia

I’m not your typical matchy-matchy mama, but I do love to show my holiday spirt by dressing for a festive weekend. I’m seeing star motifs everywhere this summer and since they are a chic nod to Independence Day, I think they are completely apropos. We usually watch fireworks on the 4th in Philadelphia or at the Jersey shore after attending a BBQ or two, so it’s easy for me to work in some stars and stripes. Here’s a little outfit inspo for your own holiday weekend, including a look for your mini! What are your plans for the 4th? -Olivia

You may know the gorgeous Jessie James Decker from her E! reality TV show Eric & Jessie: Game On. The singer and wife to the New York Jets Wide Receiver Eric Decker was spotted in our AG Jeans looking totally glam while enjoying a sweet treat last week in Los Angeles. Already a mama of one to daughter Vivianne Rose, she is expecting her second baby, a boy, this September. I’m loving that she styled up a destructed denim and button up with a sleek heel and a fabulous blowout! She’s killin’ the boy-meets-girl look as a 2nd time preggonista. Kudo’s Jessie! -Olivia

I hope you are all enjoying the day celebrating Father’s Day with the men in your life! Did you know today is also summer solstice? The summer season can be both a blessing and a curse for the mom-to-be! The warmer weather lends itself to breezy dresses and open-toe sandals, BUT with the rising temperatures, beating the heat can also be challenging! I was in my last trimester during the summer of 2013 and not only was my bump at its biggest, but I had a terrible case of edema. I lived in lightweight jersey maternity essentials and lots of layering pieces. Shorts, breezy skirts and maxi dresses were my go-to and for good reason: they were uber comfortable and easy to accessorize! Read on for some of my favorite looks that will keep you looking great and feeling cool this summer.THE MAXI: A jersey maxi dress is the perfect summer maternity essential. It’s lightweight and versatile enough to be styled up or down. Throw on a linen jacket and slides to create a totally chic weekend look. While having a few fun maxis in your wardrobe is smart, I always suggest adding at least one version that is in a simple silhouette and neutral color. Grey, navy or black can be worn so many ways and will give you tons of style mileage this summer.THE SOFT SHORT: Another warm weather must-have! Go with a classic jean short but also invest in a soft cotton short; just keep in mind the fabric should be lightweight and even have a little stretch. A short can always be paired with a tee or opt for a peasant top. Add a heel or espadrille for a more polished look. The combination is perfect for a summer party or even date night. THE KNIT SKIRT: How great is this updated maxi skirt? With a chic side slit (that’s not too high,) you have an effortless look that does double duty depending on how you accessorize. With a metallic wedge, simple stripe dolman tee and fedora, you have a city-chic look perfect for a summer night. Style TIP: For a leg lengthening look, opt for a side-ruched tee that contours to your bump. For an easier more bohemian take, pair a maxi skirt with a fitted tank and unbuttoned shirt.THE SUMMER SHEATH: Wondering what to wear to the office this summer? The sheath dress is a fabulous option and can be worn from desk to dinner. PLUS, a great black and white graphic print seamlessly transitions into fall by updating your accessories and adding a blazer.

Flares are the hottest denim silhouette for summer! A nod to the 70’s, flares look totally refreshing in a sea of skinnies. You can go completely retro by pairing a flare with a caftan, tortoise shade and platform wedges. If you need a summer maternity denim update, I would definitely suggest adding a little flare to your wardrobe. As always, I would love to hear how you would style this jean! –Olivia

White is having a major fashion moment this summer. White is classic yet modern, whether a sleek silhouette or added as an accessory. A white maternity dress and jean are essentials for the season and both are versatile enough to be styled up or down. I also love clean white accessories to freshen up a summer look. Mixing white and blue denim staples you already have in your closet such as a short, boyfriend jean or jacket is also a summer must. Happy styling! -Olivia
