Maternity Hacks You Need To Know

Maternity Hacks Maternity_HACKS_2-608x1034

Between being preggers myself and working with so many mamas-to-be, I have some quite a few insider secrets to share that will help you nail your maternity look and feel your best for nine months and beyond. Read on for some of my favorite “hacks” and essentials every expecting women needs to know!

When it comes to maternity essentials, a side-ruched tee, cardigan, Secret Fit Belly® jeans and leggings, and maxi dresses are your best friends and for good reason! Not only are they the foundation of a great maternity wardrobe, you’ll be able to wear them after baby, too. They can also easily be mixed and matched together for looks that get you through any season.

A tummy belt is another secret to help you in those first few weeks, when you may want to keep your baby bump a secret. The little piece of elastic and button helps you adjust your jeans for the right fit. Alternatively, a tummy tube or tummy sleeve can be worn low on your waist, over your pants to smooth and support your bump.

For a universal bra with tons of room to grow, look for a maternity sports bra. Of course you’ll want to work in your favorite maternity bra styles throughout your pregnancy, but if you’re looking for a versatile no fuss fit- try a sports bra and try it early.

Did you know that keeping hydrated is paramount when you are pregnant?  Staying hydrated also helps with nausea. For even better hydration and extra electrolytes, snack on pineapples. To beat nausea, pop some SweetTarts®. Trust me, they do the job like all of these tips and tricks! Xoxo, Olivia

Chic This Week // The Jogger

It can so easily be styled up with a jacket and heel or styled down with chic flats and a tee. Wear it before and after baby, too, for tons of wardrobe mileage! -Olivia

A Night With Rachel Zoe

Rachel Zoe Rachel Zoe

Last week we celebrated A Pea in the Pod’s new and exclusive collection with Rachel Zoe in Los Angeles at The Chateau Marmont. The hotel is timeless and every bit glamourous, a perfect choice for the intimate gathering in honor of Rachel and her first ever maternity collection.

Upon arriving, Rachel, who donned a one shoulder black caftan, and husband Rodger excitedly shared photos taken earlier in the day of sons Skyler Morrison and Kaius Jagger. Hollywood mammas and mammas-to-be Jaime King, Casey Wilson, Vanessa Lachey, Tiffani Thiessen, Claire Coffee and Elizabeth Berkley joined the fete soon after. We all indulged in mocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres like pesto parmesan tortellini skewers and parmesan cups filled with mozzarella, tomato and basil.

Jaime, Casey, Tiffani and Claire all wore pieces from the Rachel Zoe Collection for A Pea in the Pod, opting for the Printed Caftan Maternity Dress, Exposed Zipper Maternity Mini Dress, Sleeveless Maternity Maxi Dress and Printed Shift Maternity Dress. I love how each made her outfit her own, really demonstrating the versatility of the collection and how flattering the pieces are on different figures. Casey chose a leopard printed open-toe high heel (totally glam!) while Claire added a denim jacket, for a more playful yet chic statement. Jaime, who wore her hair long and flowing, nailed the quintessential Bohemian aesthetic Rachel’s pieces are known for. Plus, she brought the best accessory of the night by far—her mom!

The party ended on a sweet note with to-go boxes from Dana’s Bakery which included birthday cake flavored macarons, a precursor to another party Rachel would be attending later in the week: son Skyler Morrison’s fourth birthday party!

Styled & Inspired // AG Jeans

Some of our favorite bloggers and fashion influencers have recently been donning maternity styles from one of our most-loved denim brands: AG Jeans- and we’re obsessed with each of their looks!

A Pea in the Pod and Destination Maternity both offer the latest styles and washes from AG Jeans translated specifically for a baby bump. With the Secret Fit Belly®, you can wear some of their iconic styles like The Stilt, The Legging or The Ballad and feel comfortable throughout your whole pregnancy and beyond.

I lived in my favorite AG Jeans when I was pregnant (and still wear them!) since the Secret Fit Belly® panel is comfortable and supportive even after baby.

So take a nod from an expecting fashionistas like Staci from Leather & Leops,  who paired her Destructed Skinny AG’s with an easy silk blouse, heels and a fringe bag. Keep it chic like Andrea from With Love… Andrea, who paired The Stilt with a fun top, flat, hat and cardigan. Go totally preppy like Connie who nailed the look with The Stilt Crop, striped tee and pretty ballet flat. We love them all, don’t you? -Olivia

British maternity brands, Isabella Oliver and Seraphine, are two of our favorite lines that we carry at Destination Maternity.  Posh style from across the pond is making waves, especially since all eyes have been on British Royal, Kate Middleton.  Like Isabella Oliver and Seraphine, Madderson London is a favorite of The Duchess, so we are excited to be adding this collection to our designer roster later this month! Polished yet playful, Madderson’s signature style embodies London society at its most elegant and timeless.  –Olivia

Trending Baby Names

Trending Baby Names

What is every little girl’s favorite movie? If you don’t know, here’s a hint… LET IT GO! Frozen’s Elsa and Anna are trending as baby names in 2015, as well as other Disney character favorites including Tiana, Giselle, Anastacia and Aurora.  The movie, The Fault in Our Stars, has earned both Gus and Hazel popular baby name status. Arya—calling all Game of Thrones fans– as well as its other spelling Aria, from Pretty Little Liars, and Piper, from Orange is the New Black, are TV-inspired baby names. Other pop Culture influenced names give a nod to literature, like Harper; Harper Lee is the author of To Kill a Mockingbird.

Our favorite royals William and Kate have given us a new love of the name George, while their own monikers continue to be popular choices. No doubt if they have a girl and decide to pay homage to Diana, we will be seeing that name rise in popularity. In fact, the United Kingdom is proving to be quite a source for baby names in the US, with “Fiona, Flora, Fenella, Greer, Isla and Elspeth, and for the boys, Finlay, Angus, Duncan, Ewan and Lachlan” making their way across the ocean according to The Huffington Post.

Your favorite color might just make the perfect baby name as well! In addition to Hazel, Scarlet, Lavender, Indigo, Magenta, Lilac– the list goes on—could be the just the way to make a bold statement with your name choice. Names with an X at the end or in the middle are becoming popular like Lennox or Axel as well.  To round out our list of names, Titan, of Greek Mythology is strong, memorable and makes a Big Statement!

Congratulations and good luck! –Olivia

Style File // Leather + Leops Dishes On Designer Maternity Denim

StyleFile-Leather_Leops_1-608x275StyleFile-Leather_Leops_2-608x1039

Staci Acquasanta of LEATHER+LEOPS is a stylist, fashion blogger and soon-to- be mom! She has an amazing sense of style, so it’s no surprise she’s looking fabulous through pregnancy. During a recent chat Staci dished, “Just because I was pregnant did not mean I was going to start dressing any differently. I was so excited to see that everything I would typically wear was offered in maternity versions at Destination Maternity. While I did love my maternity leggings, I would try to dress it up with a long sleeved tee and a fur vest.  I always say that it’s important to dress for your body and being pregnant, I tried to do just that.”

Some of Staci’s favorite maternity essentials are easy layering tanks, Mama Mio Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Butter and a great body pillow. She’s also been living in A Pea in the Pod’s Splendid Maternity Leggings and David Lerner Leggings and counts herself a fan of our designer jeans featuring the Secret Fit Belly®.  “I loved that I was able to go to Destination Maternity and find my favorite designer jean brands in maternity versions” said Staci. “The Secret Fit Belly is so comfortable and has allowed me to easily grow into my pants, as I’ve worn them from month 3 to now (almost 8) without any problem. Besides the belly material, the jeans feel just like a normal pair of jeans and have the same exact look. I also loved that I was able to get more than plain denim.  I invested in a pair of black coated and maroon coated pants to change up my look from everyday denim. My favorites by far have been AG, DL1961, A Pea in the Pod’s boyfriend jeans and 7 For All Mankind.”

We love that Staci’s style hasn’t wavered! She’s proven that you can stay true to your own style even with a bump! -Olivia

My son Greyson has some killer style! Ok, so he’s only a toddler and not actually choosing his own clothes yet but his momma is having way too much fun doing it for him! Seeing how other mommas dress their babes and even coordinate with their minis can be so fun and inspiring. Some of the brands I rely on for Grey are Tea Collection, MINI X STYLE & Little Boogaweezin. And he loves the sneaker trend as much as his dad!

We’d love to see your photos! Just use #MHministyle @MotherhoodMaternity and #APIPministyle @PeaMaternity on Instagram to be featured on our feeds! –Olivia
