Now that we’ve officially announced our new line with Rachel Zoe, I am so excited to fill you in on what happened behind-the-scenes at our shoot at Smashbox Studios in LA back in January! I met the always glamorous Rachel (who did not disappoint in a classic black fur vest and 70’s flares!) and chatted with her about her first-ever maternity collection.
Rachel’s outfit seemed especially fitting when she let us know that the ’70s were her inspiration in designing the maternity collection for A Pea in the Pod. The effortless chic and glamour that categorized the era is sure to resonate with moms-to-be like Rachel who have to do it all with not a lot of time.
My son Greyson is close in age to Rachel’s two children so we had a few stories about our lovable and energetic boys to share. As another working mom in the fashion industry, I am especially inspired by Rachel’s ability to balance her work and love of fashion with motherhood….plus did I mention she’s a blast to hang out with?

Did you tune in to the Oscars last night? While I am sorry to see award season come to a close, the fashion choices ended it on a “haute” note. Mom-to-be Keira Knightley opted for a baby-doll Valentino gown, her go-to silhouette this season, while Sophie Hunter, who is also expecting, chose Lanvin. It only took one shade, red, for Dakota Johnson to stop the show in Saint Laurent and THAT ponytail! Lupita Nyong’o, who I am convinced can do no wrong, chose a white beaded Calvin Klein dress. Zoe Saldana, new mom to twins, looked amazing in blush, while Jennifer Lopez glowed in a flesh-toned Elie Saab gown. My personal favorite of the night was Margot Robbie who stunned in a black Saint Laurent gown, a perfectly coiffed blonde lob and pouty red lip, a refreshing take on old Hollywood glam. -Olivia

The maternity boyfriend jean is a fashion favorite of mine! I love it because it’s slightly slouchy, but also fitted, can be styled up, styled down and looks amazing with just about any accessory. Our additional patented Secret Fit Belly® panel makes it super comfy and supportive, so you will want to live in these jeans. It’s very versatile, so I figured I would show you 3 ways to wear this look.
Finding an outfit for date night can be daunting, but the boyfriend jean is so cool on its own, that adding the right additions is all you need for the perfect evening. Try working it with a Henley, button up, or a pretty blouse. Add some bling, heels or booties, a great bag and finish with a classic red lip.
The boyfriend jean IS your weekend wardrobe, so making your Saturday and Sunday stylish is easy. Try your boyfriends with a graphic ruched tee, some easy sneaks and bright accessories. The fun colors make for a downtown vibe; the most put together, yet relaxed street style.
The third way to rock your boyfriend jeans is for a casual Friday ensemble. Adding some control with the right bras and camis makes the workday a comfortable one. Top off your look with a moto jacket or a maternity blazer, a structured bag and a sophisticated flat.
The boyfriend jean takes you from work, to dinner, to the weekend and beyond. There are countless ways to wear this style. I lived in mine during my pregnancy and I still wear them now. I love the belly panel. I just fold mine down now that I am no longer pregnant. On days I want a little control under my tops, I wear it as normal! They are that amazing. Happy styling. – Olivia

In years past the ultimate red carpet, The Oscars Red Carpet, has been graced with some fabulous expecting stars. I can’t wait to watch The Oscars this Sunday for the nominations, the dresses and of course to bump watch. Benedict Cumberbatch’s wife, Sophie Hunter, is expecting, as well as Jessica Biel and Kiera Knightley! In honor of The Oscars, here’s a look back at some of my favorite red carpet styles of the past – Olivia

We love our designer collections at A Pea in the Pod® and are extremely happy with our partnership with London-Based Brand, Seraphine Maternity. I had the opportunity to speak with their Head Designer, Cecile, who has styled celebrities and has a royal fashion following. Seen on stars like Jessica Alba and Gwen Stefani, Seraphine has also adorned the likes of The Duchess, the one and only Kate Middleton. Seraphine is known for having maternity fashion for every occasion. Luckily, we sell their products in both our A Pea in the Pod® stores and online. Check out our conversation on the hottest trends inspired by some of the most fashion-forward European cities! -Olivia
Here is the Q+A
- A Pea in the Pod® is so happy to have Seraphine as part of our maternity collection. Can you tell us about the partnership and why you decided to launch your line with us in the US?
A Pea in the Pod® is the best known global retailer specialized in fashionable maternity wear and Seraphine is delighted to showcase its collection within Pea’s 103 US stores nationwide. Our range complements perfectly the offering and is in good company with other big names like BCBGMaxazria, Nicole Miller and the huge choice of eponymous labels that A Pea in the Pod® offers.
- Where does your inspiration for the line come from?
Our brand motto is “stay true to your pre-pregnancy style ” and so we find ideas in the latest fashion trends for our collections . Our strength is also from our in-house print design that produces signature patterns for our dress collection each year. We like to blend French chic, British heritage and American trends to create a unique range that allows everyone to find some pieces to suit their personal style.
- Why do you think the collection is a favorite for celebrities, like the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton?
Dressing royals and rock stars alike is a testimony of the wide appeal of our range, thanks to our extensive collection that offers many different wardrobe solutions. The high quality of our fabrics and our expert cuts really flatter the pregnant curves and appeal to our famous clientele. Our luxe range of evening wear has been worn at many international red carpet events, which certainly helps create our glitzy and glamorous brand reputation.
- Since you are based in London, can you tell us some of the latest maternity trends happening across the pond?
London is a vibrant city and a true melting pot of cultures, making it a real incubator for new fashion trends in Europe. The strong heritage of expert tailoring, mixed with a rock and roll vibe, gives an edge to classic styles. For Spring/Summer 2015 there is a strong trend of geometric prints in vibrant colours combined with original dress shapes. Our signature maxi dresses often seen on our famous clients are continuing to set a trend for maternity wear, internationally.
P.S. If you’re in the Beverly Hills area on Friday, February 20th, stop by to meet me and Cecile for some style tips, pampering and a chance to win $300 for a Seraphine wardrobe! RSVP at email@example.com

Are you ready for baby? Well, it may be time to start thinking about packing up that hospital bag now. I have come up with some essentials that I think you’ll want with you. I over-packed my hospital bag, thinking I would use my straightening iron and leave in my normal clothes. The truth is, I craved comfort. So, with that in mind, I made sure to include lots of cozy and stretchy options for both you and baby.
Start with a really large bag; we have really amazing Wendy Bellissimo ones. They are stylish, so they look like a chic purse. You can load this up now with all your baby needs. Throw in one of our super soft blankies and a going home outfit for baby too. Don’t forget Sophie the Giraffe- it’s safe for teething and small hands. (My son loved this toy so much!) You may as well throw in a soft pair of slippers you for too. It’s all about comfort!
Stock up on comfortable base layers, like the perfect panties, our seamless support bras and shapers. There is a new line to look for that is already being sold in our Motherhood Maternity stores called Bounce Back, featuring patent pending technology. It is made for new moms, post-partum, who are thinking about helping their skin rebound to pre-pregnancy. It features a tummy transformer that helps with refining and reduction.
Think about your going home outfit too. You are going to want casual and practical, trust me. Our yoga pants are perfect because they have a fold-over top that transitions from pregnancy to motherhood. You can wear them down for under the bump comfort, or up, after pregnancy, for some smoothing and a little support. Finish with an active-leisure top and a cozy cardi. Don’t forget nursing bras, which are so cute and obviously made in many styles: clip down, pull down, etc.
Finish off your packing with a camera to capture those first few moments and days, because they will fly by. Keep yourself healthy and nourished with some protein and fast, yet efficient fuel, like nuts from Kind Bars. This is such a magical time for you. It is definitely important to be prepared. Happy packing! –Olivia

Every year my family and I get away to the Pennsylvania Poconos for a fun ski weekend. My husband is an avid snow boarder and my 20-month old son loves being outdoors, so it was a perfect trip for all of us! Hot cocoa by the fire and ski-in, ski-out accommodations were my only specifications.
Since getting away with a toddler can be challenging, we had our extended family with us so everyone spent time with Greyson, leaving a little free time for my husband and I. Luckily, we had some extra hands, but in case you get the chance to take a family trip without grandparents, aunts or uncles, here are some tips on a worry (less) weekend with little ones.
Keep consistency; we packed Greyson’s favorite toys and had them set up for him just as he would at home. I also brought tons of his favorite snacks, and tried my best to keep to his normal nap schedule. Vacations are for special moments and tons of fun, but trust me, letting your toddler off to his own devices and sleep schedule can lead to major (but preventable) melt downs
Of course, packing for a whole family can be a challenge too, but I’ve learned to keep it simple. Lots of layers, if you are expecting or not, are super important! I always carry my favorite Chapstick and moisturizers to keep me hydrated in the cold weather too. -Olivia

Welcome to the 3rd trimester; this is the homestretch. I have been there, not too long ago, so I figured I would comprise a short list of must-haves for these next few weeks. The key is staying comfortable, feeling good and preparing for your final step… motherhood! (Side note, if you are newly pregnant or halfway through, make sure you check back at our first two posts in this series geared toward 1st trimester and 2nd trimester musts!) During the 3rd trimester, however, many women will be attending their shower or sprinkle, so a comfortable, yet chic dress is essential. All eyes will be on you, but you want to be able to enjoy the day without fussing around with your outfit. This concept of staying comfortable is the name of the game through the rest of your pregnancy.
Start with trying cozy pajamas and soft sleepwear for maternity, because they travel from pregnancy to post-pregnancy seamlessly. This holds true for our maternity panties as well. Stock up on ruched tops, nursing camis and nursing bras now. They offer a lot of stretch, so they will continue to grow with you, plus they double as parts of a comfortable outfit for leaving the hospital after baby. The Secret Fit Belly® jean is amazing because the panel is supportive, yet stretchy and adds control. You will continue to love these after baby, because you still will crave the support and comfort they provide.
Start thinking about packing those hospital and baby bags now. You are going to want to keep hydrated, so remember to moisturize the remainder of your pregnancy and afterward too. Think about bringing the softest blankets in your bag, so you can wrap baby up and start your new life. You are almost there! -Olivia
