MATERNITY COATS YOU’LL LOVE

Maternity CoatsMaternity Coats Maternity Coats

‘Tis the season to bundle up! Here in the North East a cold chill has definitely descended upon us and winter coats have been calling. I even visited Georgia two weeks ago for our new Destination Maternity store opening at the Avalon Mall and it was freezing! Winter is one of my favorite seasons for fashion though because layering up is a must, giving even more reason to add stylish pieces to an outfit. Our Destination Maternity outerwear, this season in particular, is designed to do more than just keep you warm. Coats and jackets make a real style statement. During these cold months, they are the item that everyone has the chance to see!

Investing in a maternity coat will give you a great fit throughout your entire pregnancy, since our outerwear is made with your growing bump in mind. With drawstring waistlines, essential seaming, and elastic insets, you can get a great fit over your bump as well as in your shoulders and sleeves. Opting to size up in a non-maternity coat can leave you with a larger fit throughout your body, which doesn’t accommodate your bump and ends up not looking cute at all. They are not flattering and too slouchy in my opinion. A maternity coat is a good investment that is made for pregnancy. Plus, a cute maternity puffer or parka can complete a look.

Some of my favorites are our printed Jessica Simpson Maternity belted puffer, A Pea in the Pod wool plaid coat and Wendy Bellissimo Maternity parka. We have a great selection of maternity jackets in stores and online so check them all out. -Olivia

CHIC HOLIDAY ACCESSORIES

Chic For The HolidaysChic For The HolidaysChic For The Holidays

I am an accessory lover! I am constantly looking to add the latest it-items and jewelry pieces into my style cache! This obsession really took its hold on me when I was pregnant, because a fun accessory truly completes a mom-to-be look. One of the things I am currently craving is anything shiny and gold for the holidays! Check out one of my latest posts featuring gold in home decor (link to nurseries to crave). Metal embellishments, chunky gold jewelry and matte gold nail polish are my go-to accents for this party season. I suggest wearing gold with black basics, maybe a novel sweater, and a pop of red for a stand-out yet sophisticated look.

Butter London’s nail lacquers are a great way to introduce a pop of color or to get a metallic finish. Did you know that Butter London’s polishes are carcinogen and formaldehyde free? It’s a product line that is perfect for expecting and new moms. I love that the nail foundation keeps your nails smooth and chip-free too! The signature lotion and hand balm by Butter London are extremely useful for moms on the go (like me!) I always keep the hydrating hand balm in my diaper bag. -Olivia

MAD FOR PLAID

Checks and buffalo plaids are everywhere right now! I love them in maternity wear, especially since they camouflage the bump, making them super flattering. They definitely add a cool edge to a maternity outfit. Plaids totally give any accessory a fresh new focus during these cooler months. Jackets, bags, booties and even umbrellas make great gifts that tie in the trend. And the plaid shirt and menswear inspired coat are two maternity essentials this season. We have a lot of options at Destination Maternity so check us out online and in-stores – Olivia

WHAT TO WEAR/WHERE: BRUNCH

What To Wear To Brunch What To Wear To Brunch What To Wear To BrunchGoing out to brunch on the weekend is a favorite outing of mine. Many times my husband and I will take Greyson to his favorite 1950′s diner in our neighborhood, The Pop Shop. It has a kid-friendly atmosphere with an awesome home-style brunch menu featuring gourmet pancakes and inventive sandwiches. If I’m not with the boys I love to head out with my girlfriends on the weekend for a ladies’ brunch. A cappuccino and croissant are the perfect start (or end) to a weekend catching up with friends and family.

I think an early Sunday brunch is easier for my friends and me now that we have children. Or at least, we try harder to attend them now, especially since we have such full lives- it’s great to relax a little. We leave the babes with their daddies and still make it home early enough to enjoy a full day of family fun. Choosing what to wear is always an important element, because brunch lends itself to being not too dressy, not too casual. It can be a difficult balance to strike for all women, but definitely expecting women.

This time of year a great maternity skinny jean and leather jacket are perfect pieces for expecting mamas for an early afternoon away from home.  A fun novel maternity top with a smoothing seamless maternity camisole offer a cheeky look with some maternity jeans and jacket. A stocky heel or even a cool platform bootie, plus a cute midsize messenger bag and chunky ring also dress up this downtown look. And don’t forget to throw your mama moisturizer in your bag before heading out! Keeping hydrated during pregnancy is important, so I always recommend keeping your favorite lotion with you at all times. Try Vitamin C Revitalizing Lotion By Naturopathica. Here’s to a stylish Sunday Brunch! -Olivia

BABY SHOWER DECOR

Baby Shower DecorBaby Shower DecorBaby Shower Decor

One of the prettiest new themes I’ve been seeing in party and baby shower decor is a take on Parisian-Chic. I actually just threw a wedding shower for my girlfriend and we used hints of French flair with lots of black and white accessories, macarons and beautiful blooms. What’s great about this theme is that it translates for a baby shower so well, since you can choose any accent color you like. We chose pink for her shower, which is traditional, but I am also seeing soft blues, gold and mint green as upcoming color trends in party decor. You only need to focus on a few essentials when decorating for a party, whether that be for a birthday, shower or even wedding.

Flowers, linens and baked goods are always the foundation of a party, so I suggest starting there. For my friend’s shower, we had tons of pink floral arrangements, pink macarons, plus black and white linens. Just those simple elements had a huge effect in bringing the Parisian-Chic theme to life. We also added in paper tassels, which are another fun decor trend hot on Pinterest right now. They make for a great table display. Last, but not least, don’t forget to dress the part for the shower! A manicure, pretty maternity dress, comfortable maternity innerwear and cute accessories will complete your party look. -Olivia

MATERNITY STYLING TIPS

Maternity Styling Tips

Thought I’d share some of my secret maternity styling tips today. I can never talk enough about the pros of investing in maternity wear during your pregnancy, but it’s also important to know how to actually make all of the pieces work for you to create the right looks that highlight your new figure. Getting proportion correct in an outfit is key, no matter your shape. Whether you have a degree in fashion design or not, I’m sure you’ve figured out how to accentuate your best features and minimize others. As for me, I have a longer waist with shorter legs. I try to create the illusion of height by wearing tops and jackets that sit slightly higher than my hips to create a longer leg line. My bestie is super petite, so she always looks for dresses and skirts that fall a few inches above her knee to give her that length. When you become pregnant, your proportion changes and you lose your natural waistline. But, by following a few simple tricks, you can balance out your bump and get a nice long and lean silhouette that actually flatters your new curves.

First, layers are a must! When I became pregnant with my son, I realized that I didn’t feel put-together unless I was wearing a few pieces to finish my look. A jacket, cardigan or blazer works to make you look polished. When left open or unzipped, layers also help create a nice vertical line from your chin to the floor. In essence, it makes you look slimmer and taller… which is win-win in my book.Another trick to creating a lean look is opting for a long necklace. One that falls just above your bump without hitting it is another way to create that vertical long and lean line. Side ruching, whether on a tee or dress, can also enhance your bump and is especially form flattering since it hugs your back and gives a nice shape from behind. Don’t forget the beauty of the Secret Fit Belly® panel, which not only smooths and supports, but also allows you to wear fitted tops with no “bump lines.”

Another great lesson I learned dressing so many pregnant women over the years is the importance of choosing the right shoe. At a certain point many women are not opting for heels, and neither did I the last few weeks. But I did find that shoes with a little support and a tiny heel were not only easy on my feet, but also gave me a little lift that I loved. Try a mid- heel bootie for fall. Accessories can really help to complete a maternity style! A scarf gives a pop of color which I always suggest; plus, it similarly creates that nice long line like a necklace. And a midsize bag is the way to go with your new figure as well. An oversized bag seems too clunky when you are pregnant and a tiny bag too small, so look for a medium structured bag.

Lastly, I know it may be hard to believe, but prints and patterns can be your friend, even when you are sporting a bump! In a small dose like from an accessory or even in a dress, go with a print that is not too large and not too abstract. Just like a midsize bag, a medium scale print in only 2 or 3 colors can conceal and enhance your figure at the same time. It’s really magic! Hope some of these tips come in handy when you are dressing your fabulous new baby bump! – Happy styling, Olivia
