Distressed, destroyed, ripped and torn- denim, with lots of love, is looking fresh for spring ’15 in a sea of clean indigo. I personally think “blown-out” jeans (yes, that’s the technical term for indigo cotton that’s been ripped and torn) are an American staple. I always keep a distressed medium-wash easy fit jean in my wardrobe and have for years, as do so many other fashion icons and bloggers. They know that it is the ultimate style maker for a done/undone look.
Pair a crisp white shirt and pointy pump with a boyfriend jean, or a black tuxedo jacket and strappy heels with a destructed skinny to instantly raise your style status. Simply put, a distressed jean can be styled up or down. In an easy boyfriend fit or a super soft stretch skinny, the comfortable factor is why I love the maternity version. Plus, the Secret Fit Belly® panel gives you added support too. With so many ways to wear this this look, the distressed maternity jean is a maternity must-have in my book. -Olivia

Are you planning on taking some time to yourself before the baby arrives? The babymoon has become so popular lately, helping expecting moms (and dads) relax before their little bundles of joy enter the world. If you’re planning on getting away, or maybe just taking a day to yourself, these items on my list will make your time away that much more amazing.
First, you need to get down to the basics- comfortable bras and camisoles not only add support, but they are the first layer that touches your skin. Ours are specifically made to help smooth you out, with your new figure in mind. Once your foundations are packed, then you can start adding the styles that speak to you.
Beautiful and bold blouses are fun, flirty and they transition from shorts to jeans or pants. They work day to night, so you can pack light, but still look good. I recommend sandals or flip flops for a more relaxed feel. You’re on vacation! (Even if only for the day.) Soft peachy pastels and cool blues are a way to ease into spring, yet they still are refreshing mixed into your winter wardrobe. From tropical paradise to everyday reality, I like clothes that are versatile.
Don’t forget the sun essentials like glasses, a towel and lip balm. Adding some sunless tanner is a great and safe option, but remember to slather on SPF and keep hydrated. I love Naturopathica moisturizers, because they keep skin plump and healthy, especially after catching some rays.
Last but not least, make sure you capture this time with your honey before the baby comes through pictures. Throw all of your essentials into a large tote and you are good to go. Happy travels! – Olivia

It has been a busy few weeks for me with traveling for work, lots of fun events and new posts running on the blog! I was out in sunny California for not one, but two, separate photo shoots (exciting details on these coming soon.) While there, I booked some styling sessions during my visit! It was nice to get a break from the cold northeastern weather and soak in the California sun during the trip.
I also love getting to visit our associates and spend time in our stores! The team and I share such a passion for helping expecting women look and feel their best; it’s nice to collaborate, even for just a few hours. Plus, it’s great to see what’s trending in fashion in each part of the country. The Cali-girls are all about destructed denim!
I worked with clients ranging from 13 weeks pregnant to those late in their 3rd trimester. One of my clients, Flaminia, was looking for essential starter pieces that she could wear throughout her whole pregnancy. She went home with a great assortment of Secret Fit Belly® leggings, AG Maternity Jeans and a variety of A Pea in the Pod side-ruched tees.
It’s also fun to watch women find the perfect shower dress, which I helped another client do. With so many silhouettes and colors, I always ask about my clients’ preferences and start there. I love when they end up choosing something they didn’t expect, like a bright printed dress.
I can’t wait to get back to California for another visit, but check back in soon for an update on my next style session. And please reach out and email me at Olivia@destinationmaternity.com! I may be in your area to set up a time for your personal session too! -Olivia

The best part about the Super Bowl or any Sunday football game, for me, is having family and friends over for some good times and good food. Even though I am not a huge sports fan, I like to get in the spirit; some friendly competition is fun, which is why I love that we sell NFL maternity tees, because they help all the mamas represent their teams and get in the cheering spirit, while staying comfortable.
For a low key look that is definitely winning, try pairing one of our team maternity tops with a skinny jean, in any wash, featuring the Secret Fit Belly® panel. It keeps you secure, in control, and doesn’t slide down, so you can entertain without worry. I love destructed denim right now, which adds a little edge. Then add a layering element like a tank, possibly some sporty accessories and there you have it… a super cute Super Bowl look! Enjoy the game, the food, the socializing. – Olivia

There have been a lot of new pregnancy announcements the past few weeks: Ashley Simpson, Hilaria Baldwin, Tamara Mowry-Housley and Zooey Deschanel to name a few celebrities. AND also just as exciting, a bunch of my girlfriends came out with the big news too! The texts and emails are flying in from my girls, “What do I need”? “Where do I start?” “My boobs are sooooo big…I need new bras _ stat!” So, in honor of the latest Hollywood pregnant fashionistas, as well as the lovely ladies in my life who are still in their 1st trimesters or just got through those first 12 weeks of baby bump bliss, I thought I’d talk 1st trimester MUST-HAVES.
Lucky for me, I got to comprise this list with help from style maven and fellow blogger Brooke from Somewhere, Lately. Brooke and her friend Meggan came together to create their awesome blog that documents their love of fashion, beauty and all things cool! It’s one of my favorite destinations for outfit and beauty inspiration. Brooke’s got the cool-girl style thing down! She has an amazing eye and always looks effortlessly chic. She’s a big fan of A Pea in the Pod Maternity and has been choosing pieces from the fall line throughout her whole pregnancy; fortunately I had the chance to ask her what some of her favorite pieces are. She’s sported Paige and DL1961 maternity jeans and tops from our namesake line, just to name a few!
To begin, let’s discuss how those first few weeks are full of emotions, excitement, expanding breasts and bumps! For many women it is also a time where you may not want to share your big news yet. Many women wait that first trimester, limiting the big news to just family and very close friends. So in the beginning as your body is just getting adjusted to pregnancy, you are trying to look and feel your best AND maybe conceal your changing figure.
Now’s a good time to start investing in versatile side-ruched tees, plus easy everyday maternity leggings– Brooke agrees! These are two essentials that will take you through your entire pregnancy, so I suggest adding them to your arsenal early on. I also hate to see women struggling to fit into their pre-pregnancy jeans. There is nothing more uncomfortable than trying to bulge your new waistline into non-stretchy denim. The beauty of the Secret Fit Belly® panel is that it’s invisible. I recommend transitioning into at least one or two new pairs while your pregnancy news is fresh. The fabrics and materials that the designers choose have awesome stretch and recovery so they will fit well throughout those 9 months. The panel is easily covered with your top, so if you aren’t ready to let the secret out, there is no need to worry. Brooke loves the designer ones, but there are so many choices from both Motherhood Maternity and A Pea in the Pod.
Keeping comfortable is key! So is having a wardrobe that can transition with you through the trimesters. Maternity yoga pants are another great idea to keep you looking cute and comfortable. For bloggers like Brooke, this cosiness is necessary, since sitting down for long periods of time can be so uncomfortable, especially when expecting! A luxe maternity sweater is another good choice that is soft, has an easy fit, can grow with you and is super chic in any wardrobe. Together, this look works year round.
Maternity bras are critical additions. Your bust-line may continue to grow and perhaps will become sensitive, so switching to super soft seamless styles and sleep bras in the beginning can be a life saver. AGAIN comfort is KEY!
Brooke and I both agree on these last 3 important pieces. Keeping hydrated by drinking lots of H2O is extremely vital for you and baby. Throw a Tummy Tube in your wardrobe to help smooth out your waistline, if you aren’t wearing the Secret Fit Belly® panel. It’s great for added bump support too. And lastly, keep cozy in comfy maternity maternity pajamas. You may feel tired during that first trimester due to the changes that your bodies (and hormones) are creating! So try to relax, put your feet up, and feel the best you can while looking amazing too.
Congrats to my girls and to anyone who is newly pregnant! xoxo- Olivia

Since Pam and Gela for A Pea in the Pod launched in stores and online, I’ve been obsessed with the maternity collection. You don’t even need to be pregnant to wear it- example, I live in chic sweatshirts and soft joggers on the weekends (sometimes even style them for work!) and the separates from the line are just bananas! My favorite is the cold shoulder sweatshirt since it does double duty. Take it out with leather leggings and a stand-out heel. I really do love all of the pieces for expecting mamas (and new moms too!) Check out the full collection available online and in stores at A Pea in the Pod and Destination Maternity. – Olivia

I’ve taken some time off from work and blogging to spend the holidays with my family, but now I’m back in the swing of social media and maternity styling! Getting started off in the New Year is always exciting; it’s also a time of personal reflection, as I’m sure it is for so many of you.
In just 365 days so much has happened in my life, and really when I think back to even a few years ago, things have changed drastically. All the changes, even the challenges, have been for the better. All of you new and expecting moms, I am sure you understand that feeling! It seems like just yesterday that I got married, and then not before long, I was pregnant with my son. Then, soon after that I left my design position here at Destination Maternity to focus solely on social media, marketing and blogging. So basically, there were three huge life changes in quite a short amount of time.
Being a multi-tasking mother didn’t come naturally, but sharing the passion for my work, enjoying my family, and watching my baby grow into a toddler has. The rest has been a huge learning curve and I’m lucky to have friends, family, colleagues and fellow bloggers to share my journey with. I expected seamless transitions with each endeavor, but quickly learned you can’t be or do everything, and to think you can is just plain silly. So, relinquishing that notion that everything should feel and come easy, especially when you are juggling so much, was my biggest take-away of 2014. It actually helped lift a weight off my shoulders and made me feel OKAY about asking and accepting help from others.
I’m looking forward to more “firsts” this year. I have new travel plans with my husband, new styling sessions on the horizon and a brand new office in a different state at our corporate headquarters to look forward to! Oh… and a 2nd birthday to start planning for my little boy! As an expecting or new mom, I hope that you will be gentle with yourself in 2015. Enjoy your little ones and let me know if there are any special topics you’d like me cover in the coming months!
Warm wishes for a happy and healthy year to all of you and your families! xoxo-Olivia

If you are anything like me, then you are already probably thinking about what you’ll be wearing for your New Year‘s Eve plans. My husband and I have come to the decision that it might be nice to switch off every year going forward between celebrating with family and date night alone. That means this year we are spending the night out in the city just the two of us while our son stays with Mimi and Poppi. That also means I need to find an outfit. I thought this would be the perfect time to give you guys some ideas too!
For New Year’s Eve I love a clean palette of black, white, gold, nudes and even a pop of red to salute the end of the holiday season. A LB(M)D, aka the Little Black Maternity Dress, is an easy option that is always appropriate. I love ones with special details like a jewel neckline for added sparkle. Plus, the detail at the neckline highlights your bust-line and keeps the bling away from the bump, unlike a non-maternity style.
If you are going black tie, a sleek black maternity gown can be gorgeous. Or, for a fashion-forward look, choose the silk pant, which is the silhouette of the season. Pair it with a simple silk maternity top and black blazer to create a chic alternative to a dress.
Pile on the style with the right extras too. I always start with a fresh face, and that means making sure you have the right foundation. A little self-tanner or bronzer also enhances your pregnancy glow, brightening you right up. Finish off your face with a smoky- eye and mascara. Now, make sure to add some sparkle to the rest of your look!
A shimmer heel, cocktail ring or (sigh) Chanel classic earrings are the perfect additions. I also suggest, especially when expecting, to choose your accessories wisely. Pick one area to highlight to keep your look chic and effortless. If you go with a sparkly heel, keep the rest of your jewelry small or minimal. Maybe add a red lip, but then down-play your eyes. If you’re showing a little leg, then keep your neckline on the modest side.
Hope you preggonistas find some great style ideas for your New Year’s plans. And if you are staying in, there’s always next year! -Olivia

When cold weather hits, it’s time to bundle up your bump! Super soft and comfy cable knit sweaters are hot (quite literally!) this season and perfect for wrapping you and the babe up. Layering your maternity look not only keeps you warm, but allows you to peel off a piece if your temperature rises! Being pregnant means shifting from hot and cold quickly, so I always recommend wearing lots of layers. A draped stitched sweater can be worn over a seamless cami, plaid shirt over a light-weight sweatshirt, or layer on chunky scarves and hats for a fun look. Stay nice and cozy indoors or take your layered look outside for some fun in the frosty air. -Olivia
