Whether it came swiftly or not, you are now in your 2nd trimester! Hopefully, the nausea and morning sickness is at bay and you’re getting down to business with planning for your baby’s impending arrival. That means everything from deciding on names, thinking about nursery decor, a baby registry, maternity leave, to even figuring out childcare. WOW, if you are anything like me, things are starting to get real, but fun! Since I love planning, I took the nesting stage to a whole new level. I started following BabyCenter’s “Inside your Pregnancy” emails religiously and I also REALLY started to show in my 2nd trimester.
Many of the transitional pieces I started with, like my Secret Fit Belly® leggings and Tummy Tube, stayed in my maternity wardrobe arsenal at that point; others just had to go. I was DONE with my non-maternity jeans. I mean, as soon as you feel how super soft and comfy the Secret Fit Belly® panel is … you’ll jump ship too.
Having gone through it myself and from working with so many women and close friends with children or who are expecting, I have the perfect essential list of 2nd trimester must-haves broken down for you. (If you aren’t quite there yet, check out my 1st Trimester Maternity Must-Haves post here on the blog.) PLUS I’ve linked up again with fashion blogger Brooke from Somewhere,Lately to get her take on some of the items she couldn’t live without in her 2nd trimester.
Along with Brooke, I agree that easy essential pieces, like the Secret Fit Belly® jean, layering tees and everyday maternity sweaters, are a must once you are in your 2nd trimester. This is the time to fill your closets with a foundational wardrobe, as well as pieces that speak to your unique style. Brooke does a great job of doing exactly that! She chooses those quintessential pieces, but then adds in fun items too like a plaid shirt, fur vest or printed coat to complete her effortlessly-chic look.
Some other pieces that are versatile enough to take you through your whole pregnancy are a denim jacket, classic shirt and comfy lounge pants. An easy solid knit dress in a wrap or A-Line silhouette is also a must. A simple solid dress can easily be styled up or down and is comfortable to boot, so you can’t go wrong. If you are feeling overwhelmed and you need a place to start, my best suggestion is to begin with the right maternity bras and panties. And then, invest in an ultra-hydrating stretch mark cream or oil. Your body will thank you. -Olivia
