Coral is trending right now and I love it for a baby shower, especially if you’re expecting a girl! The pleating on this dress is feminine without being too frilly which works perfectly with a bump. Pair with metallic accessories for a fresh modern finish. And I suggest going with a wedge since it gives you some height without being too high! Head over www.destinationmaternity.com for the full assortment of shower-perfect dresses! Congrats! -Olivia

Are you ready for baby? Well, it may be time to start thinking about packing up that hospital bag now. I have come up with some essentials that I think you’ll want with you. I over-packed my hospital bag, thinking I would use my straightening iron and leave in my normal clothes. The truth is, I craved comfort. So, with that in mind, I made sure to include lots of cozy and stretchy options for both you and baby.
Start with a really large bag; we have really amazing Wendy Bellissimo ones. They are stylish, so they look like a chic purse. You can load this up now with all your baby needs. Throw in one of our super soft blankies and a going home outfit for baby too. Don’t forget Sophie the Giraffe- it’s safe for teething and small hands. (My son loved this toy so much!) You may as well throw in a soft pair of slippers you for too. It’s all about comfort!
Stock up on comfortable base layers, like the perfect panties, our seamless support bras and shapers. There is a new line to look for that is already being sold in our Motherhood Maternity stores called Bounce Back, featuring patent pending technology. It is made for new moms, post-partum, who are thinking about helping their skin rebound to pre-pregnancy. It features a tummy transformer that helps with refining and reduction.
Think about your going home outfit too. You are going to want casual and practical, trust me. Our yoga pants are perfect because they have a fold-over top that transitions from pregnancy to motherhood. You can wear them down for under the bump comfort, or up, after pregnancy, for some smoothing and a little support. Finish with an active-leisure top and a cozy cardi. Don’t forget nursing bras, which are so cute and obviously made in many styles: clip down, pull down, etc.
Finish off your packing with a camera to capture those first few moments and days, because they will fly by. Keep yourself healthy and nourished with some protein and fast, yet efficient fuel, like nuts from Kind Bars. This is such a magical time for you. It is definitely important to be prepared. Happy packing! –Olivia

Spring assortments are hitting stores this month full of new neutrals, soft colors with bright pops, plus DENIM! If you are anything like me, then I know you are looking forward to updating your wardrobe, so look for lots of destructed washes and silhouettes. Denim is so hot right now, ever since the chambray shirt became a staple in any woman’s closet, especially in the maternity fashion world.
The denim dress is also new on the scene and what’s great about this piece is that you can wear it now or later when the weather gets warmer. Here’s how: since indigo looks great with colors and neutrals alike, I personally pair mine with classic shades. For instance, against a black tight and chic blazer, the indigo denim really pops. Add in some cool winter accessories like a cashmere hat, infinity scarf and booties to make a look that is edgy and cool. Finish with a statement bag and dark polish.
For later, I love playing up the denim dress with a chic nude and metallic palette. Start with a nude seamless maternity camisole for smoothing support; add an oversized straw hat and metallic thong sandal. Keep your accessories minimal with a metallic ring, nude nail and bag. Of course, I always suggest a signature frame to complete the look. If you are newly expecting, this new LBD (little blue dress) is a great investment piece since you can wear it through the rest of the winter season, through the summer and even after baby. Happy styling! -Olivia

Whether it came swiftly or not, you are now in your 2nd trimester! Hopefully, the nausea and morning sickness is at bay and you’re getting down to business with planning for your baby’s impending arrival. That means everything from deciding on names, thinking about nursery decor, a baby registry, maternity leave, to even figuring out childcare. WOW, if you are anything like me, things are starting to get real, but fun! Since I love planning, I took the nesting stage to a whole new level. I started following BabyCenter’s “Inside your Pregnancy” emails religiously and I also REALLY started to show in my 2nd trimester.
Many of the transitional pieces I started with, like my Secret Fit Belly® leggings and Tummy Tube, stayed in my maternity wardrobe arsenal at that point; others just had to go. I was DONE with my non-maternity jeans. I mean, as soon as you feel how super soft and comfy the Secret Fit Belly® panel is … you’ll jump ship too.
Having gone through it myself and from working with so many women and close friends with children or who are expecting, I have the perfect essential list of 2nd trimester must-haves broken down for you. (If you aren’t quite there yet, check out my 1st Trimester Maternity Must-Haves post here on the blog.) PLUS I’ve linked up again with fashion blogger Brooke from Somewhere,Lately to get her take on some of the items she couldn’t live without in her 2nd trimester.
Along with Brooke, I agree that easy essential pieces, like the Secret Fit Belly® jean, layering tees and everyday maternity sweaters, are a must once you are in your 2nd trimester. This is the time to fill your closets with a foundational wardrobe, as well as pieces that speak to your unique style. Brooke does a great job of doing exactly that! She chooses those quintessential pieces, but then adds in fun items too like a plaid shirt, fur vest or printed coat to complete her effortlessly-chic look.
Some other pieces that are versatile enough to take you through your whole pregnancy are a denim jacket, classic shirt and comfy lounge pants. An easy solid knit dress in a wrap or A-Line silhouette is also a must. A simple solid dress can easily be styled up or down and is comfortable to boot, so you can’t go wrong. If you are feeling overwhelmed and you need a place to start, my best suggestion is to begin with the right maternity bras and panties. And then, invest in an ultra-hydrating stretch mark cream or oil. Your body will thank you. -Olivia

It has been a busy few weeks for me with traveling for work, lots of fun events and new posts running on the blog! I was out in sunny California for not one, but two, separate photo shoots (exciting details on these coming soon.) While there, I booked some styling sessions during my visit! It was nice to get a break from the cold northeastern weather and soak in the California sun during the trip.
I also love getting to visit our associates and spend time in our stores! The team and I share such a passion for helping expecting women look and feel their best; it’s nice to collaborate, even for just a few hours. Plus, it’s great to see what’s trending in fashion in each part of the country. The Cali-girls are all about destructed denim!
I worked with clients ranging from 13 weeks pregnant to those late in their 3rd trimester. One of my clients, Flaminia, was looking for essential starter pieces that she could wear throughout her whole pregnancy. She went home with a great assortment of Secret Fit Belly® leggings, AG Maternity Jeans and a variety of A Pea in the Pod side-ruched tees.
It’s also fun to watch women find the perfect shower dress, which I helped another client do. With so many silhouettes and colors, I always ask about my clients’ preferences and start there. I love when they end up choosing something they didn’t expect, like a bright printed dress.
I can’t wait to get back to California for another visit, but check back in soon for an update on my next style session. And please reach out and email me at Olivia@destinationmaternity.com! I may be in your area to set up a time for your personal session too! -Olivia

When cold weather hits, it’s time to bundle up your bump! Super soft and comfy cable knit sweaters are hot (quite literally!) this season and perfect for wrapping you and the babe up. Layering your maternity look not only keeps you warm, but allows you to peel off a piece if your temperature rises! Being pregnant means shifting from hot and cold quickly, so I always recommend wearing lots of layers. A draped stitched sweater can be worn over a seamless cami, plaid shirt over a light-weight sweatshirt, or layer on chunky scarves and hats for a fun look. Stay nice and cozy indoors or take your layered look outside for some fun in the frosty air. -Olivia

Winter is here so it’s time to bundle-up that bump! I am loving the maternity parka, especially for pregnancy! It has the best silhouette, plus it’s a hot piece of outerwear for the cold weather. With a great drawstring waist to define your figure, lots of pockets and tons of style, you’ll get mileage out of the parka. Bonus: you can wear it after baby too, which makes it even more of a must-have! Stay warm. -Olivia

This holiday season touches of shimmer and shine are everywhere from accessories, to home décor, to apparel. A maternity top with some sequins, metallic finish or a decorative neckline can add a little life to a basic jean or legging look. Try this A Pea in the Pod embellished maternity cami, Motherhood necklace trim sweatshirt or long sleeve scoop neck maternity tee. Then, add some silver and gold accessories for an extra pop. Whether it’s a gold nail lacquer like this one from Butter London, a shimmery heel, or an embellished evening belt, the shiny addition makes an average outfit completely holiday appropriate. -Olivia

November was another busy month for us here at Destination Maternity! I’m most excited about working with some of my favorite new bloggers and celebs who have announced that they are expecting! The accomplished actress, model, humanitarian and hip mom Molly Sims recently announced she is pregnant with her 2nd baby and has been showing her support for our brands wearing our styles well, especially from A Pea in the Pod!
I’ve also been working with the super stylist, digital influencer and blogger Chriselle Lim. She’s featured many of our pieces on her own blog, and has been making quite an impression in the maternity fashion world.
Some other fabulous highlights from the month include our feature in Fit Pregnancy and Lucky Magazine. A Pea in the Pod’s leather maternity jacket was styled in Fit Pregnancy’s holiday article, while Lucky Magazine shared Rebecca Minkoff’s holiday picks from her namesake Maternity Collection available at Destination Maternity. Look for more news updates next month! -Olivia

Announcing your pregnancy can be super fun for all involved. People always ask me for new ideas on how they can announce that they are expecting. The holiday season is already such a special time of year that it can also make for the perfect time to share the news with family and friends.
If you are looking for a classic way to spread the news, Etsy has some great cards that are perfect for the holiday or New Years. Sending out a card is always nice, because people expect them this time of year and enjoy them as well. Since it’s the season for giving gifts, you can surprise your family with items that mention being a new aunt, uncle, grandma or grandpa. You can present you or the father with some adorable baby booties too! But my favorite idea is taking a cute winter themed photo of you and your bump.
I found some cool ideas on Pinterest of couples who used the season as a great photo-op to announce they are expecting. Really all you need is a digital camera (camera phones work too!), a nice festive background, and a cute outfit. Our Motherhood Maternity baby love tees and some red accessories can make for a fun photo-ready ensemble. I love the idea of keeping it simple, then popping your photo into a holiday card to be sent to your family and friends. Congrats to all of you who are newly expecting! Hope you have fun announcing this holiday. I’d love to hear how you shared the news! -Olivia
