I’ve got the whole bath-time routine with my son finally down! Now that he’s 18 months old, he loves taking a bath, so it’s way easier. But as a first time mom, I was pretty clueless in the beginning. So, I thought I’d share our favorite products that got us through the first year, as well as some helpful tips for making bath-time your best time.
When your little one is a newborn you won’t bathe him or her every day and for the first few months you’ll be using a bath support of some variety. Once Greyson was a few months old we started giving him baths in the tub with a nice arched bath lounger that he stopped using once he could sit up (about 7-8 months old.)You’ll need baby wash and shampoo, obviously. Many times you’ll be gifted different varieties at your baby shower, which is great, because you can try them out and decide which you like best before investing. We landed on Aveeno Baby Wash and lotion since Grey’s skin was and is pretty sensitive. I definitely recommend The Honest Company’s shampoo and body wash since they are both great for baby’s sensitive skin as well. Baby towels and wash cloths are a no-brainer too. However, I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve gotten him in the tub and forgot to bring them with me! Our linen closet is just outside the bathroom, so make sure to bring everything with you to the bath and have it RIGHT NEXT TO YOU as you are bathing baby. You don’t want to have to reach for anything since you must be attending the babe at all times!Make sure to have bath toys ready for their little hands. It seems silly, but look for toys that have a spout since some don’t and as baby gets bigger he’ll gravitate toward the ones that sprinkle water. Grey loves his ducky and Sophie the Giraffe Bath Toy.
I always make sure to lay out what he’s wearing on his dresser well before we get into the tub. You’ll find that when you have an infant or toddler, you want everything available so you aren’t scrambling with a delicate newborn or squirmy kid. We lay out his pjs and when he was an infant we always had his swaddle ready too. My favorites are the Aden + Anais swaddle blankets that are made in delicate cotton. I’d love to hear some of your favorite bath time baby products too! Splish Splash! –Olivia
