Dealing with high humidity and heat during the summer throws me into a hair tizzy! I have naturally curly hair that I prefer blown out straight, so summer weather is always problematic for me. I know that pregnancy hormones can also affect the texture of hair, so I am always telling my clients and girlfriends about quick styles. Since becoming a mom my beauty time has been cut in half, so I always look for simple yet chic hairstyles I too can easily achieve at home.
At our summer photo shoot we worked with Los Angeles’ hair stylist David Cox, who styled the models with some of the hottest dos of the season! I love that these looks are not only totally of-the-moment, but so easy to achieve too. Simplicity is crucial when you’re trying to wrangle a toddler or get out of the house to make it to that early meeting! The Messy Pony // This is one of my faves since getting this look is usually better if your hair hasn’t been freshly washed (hello! a fresh blow-out is so not the mommy norm anymore.) Just tease the crown of your hair, apply hairspray and pull into a mid to high ponytail. Finish with some spray on the sides of your head to keep it looking sleek. The Side Braid // I love this style for a laid back casual look, but it could also tone down a polished outfit as well. Pull your hair in a low pony to one side and braid. Keep this look a bit messy- NOT perfect, by adding some hairspray and tousle before you braid. The Top Bun // The higher the bun… the better! Simply pull all of your hair up and smooth into a high ponytail; then, twist until it starts to coil around itself. Wrap hair around the base of the pony and secure with a hair tie. Gently pull on pieces of the bun for a fuller look. Keep flyaways at bay with some hairspray to lock in this posh do.Half Up // This is one of the freshest looks I’m seeing right now. Grab the sections above your ears and bring them towards the back of your head. Secure into a pony for a traditional half-up hairstyle or mix it up by braiding or twisting into a bun.The Panama Hat // When all else fails, opt for the IT accessory of the season: The Panama Hat. The best part? No hairstyle required!
