MH BLOG Milestone v1

Hello and welcome to #MilestoneMonday (share your pregnancy progress with us, then let us see how big baby is getting @motherhoodmaternity.)

Obviously we are known for our maternity and new mom clothing, but did you know that we sell bump shot accessories? We did a whole series on how to take and make the most Insta-worthy pics. In the pregnancy community, if you will, women reference the size of their baby and bump by fruit and veggie. We love that the Fruit Belly Stickers by Pearhead do the job for you. Just stick and snap! They include 17 stickers starting from week 8 through week 40. These are also perfect for announcing your pregnancy. If you’re less about the bump and more about the moment, our Pregnancy Chalkboard, also by Pearhead, lets you get creative. It comes with 6 pieces of colored chalk, so you can be as artsy as you want!

When the bump becomes baby, keep those posts coming. Your princess is going to need her monthly photoshoot with help from these crown and ring stickers. They peel off and can be put on baby’s outfit or next to her as she awaits her glamour shot. We also love the bowtie first year stickers for baby boy. They are felt and textured, ready for his debonair debut. Both sets of monthly stickers are from Pearhead as well. If you want more, we have holiday inspired stickers too!  Check them all out under Baby Gifts and New Mom Gifts. We cannot wait to see your pictures!

MH Blog FF Katie BabyShower v1

We’re back again with our second co-worker helping us show off how the five FUNdamentals look five different ways! This beauty and her bump are showing us an OCCASION LOOK, specifically Baby Shower.

Who: Katie Graf, Manager of Store Operations

What: trimester are you in? I am 38.5 weeks pregnant! This is my first time being pregnant and am expecting a girl. Her name will be Margaret Reed, but we’ll call her Maggie.

Wear: Printed Wrap Maternity Maxi Dress

When: I would totally wear this dress in my everyday life. I wish it was available when I had my shower! This dress, in particular, I could style for work or a wedding, depending on the shoe. I am all about versatility.

Why: I am a jean and tee girl for sure. I like the Secret Fit Belly ones the most because I like how the panel holds everything in. I really gravitate toward comfort over anything else. I love the tanks and tees with side-ruching; I wear them with leggings for when I work out.

MH Blog FiveFundamentals 2017 v2

Mix them, match them, make them yours from maternity to motherhood. We want shopping to be fun, even when outfitting your bump!  We know this may be new territory and tricky to navigate. That’s why we’re here to show you how fun it actually can be by highlighting the five FUNdamental styles that will kick start your maternity wardrobe – bras, dresses, leggings, jeans and tees!

Dress them up, dress them down, take them to work or to lounge around – wherever you are going, you’ll be covered, comfortable and stylish. We’ve enlisted six of our very own Motherhood moms to show you how they wear their FUNdamentals through their pregnancy and beyond. Over the next month, we will introduce you to each of them to find out their favorites, but first, let’s talk about the fashion-forward five!

BRAS The bra for maternity days to nursing nights

Everyone knows their bellies get bigger when pregnant, and it’s no surprise breasts do too. Some women welcome this change, while others find it hard to navigate their new curves. We pride ourselves on creating soft, stretchy, and supportive maternity bras that are crafted with nursing functionality built in. We dare you to find a style you don’t love because we have seamless bras, lace bralettes, demi bras, wireless bras and full coverage bras.

DRESSES The ready-to-wear dress

What do we mean by ready-to-wear? We mean the one-hit-wonder; the dinner date to Sunday brunch; the throw-on-and-go; the wear-to-work and the weekend must… It’s the dress that complements your new curves, no matter what style you prefer. From your shower look to running errands, having at least one in your arsenal is a wise move.

LEGGINGS The live-in leggings

And we mean live in. Our most versatile piece can be styled with a stylish blouse, fitted with a fitted tee, and dressed under a dress. They are stretchy, of course, but they also retain their soft structure for use after baby makes his or her debut into the world. Lift the belly panel up for support under tops, or fold it over to create a structured waistband, a layered look, or for post-partum wear. The question on whether leggings are pants has been answered: they are!

DENIM The new favorite jeans

Has there ever been a piece of clothing more loved than a good pair of jeans? The answer is no, and that’s because denim has become like a second skin to the wearer. Don’t despair; we have your new favorite pair ready to be worn every day – we don’t judge! With the Secret Fit Belly, side panels or an underbelly waist, add a pair or two to your closet and make casual Fridays blend into Saturdays, which inevitably become Sundays. They’re so comfortable, you’ll want to feel the blues all week long.

TEES The classic tee

Since when did basic get a bad rap? No closet is complete without a t-shirt that you turn to when you are craving comfort. A V-neck, crew neck or scoop neck – we have them all. We even have graphic tees for when you want to speak from the bump. Find your shirt of choice and revel in its versatility. There is no wrong way to wear this classic staple. Go ahead… be basic.

Labor Day Style

So, you’re due in September? Well then, let’s talk about YOUR labor day looks. We’re sure you read the lists, packed the lip balm, the pads, your phone… but have you thought yet about what baby should go home in, or what the comfiest clothes are for you? Look no further than these matching outfits: nursing/napping is my cardio, as well as mama/baby boss!

First, how cute are they? Graphic tees are fan-favorites because they are so picture-worthy! These are great for hospital photos and an easy one-and-done look for baby. The bodysuits are gender neutral, ready for a baby boy or a little girl. This also makes them great as a shower or gender reveal party gift.

Secondly, the tops are nursing friendly with a stretchy pull down neckline. Pair yours with one of our many amazing maternity leggings for the ultimate in cozy.

And third-of-all… pack one of our maternity or sleep bras (which are nursing bras) under the shirt for when guests come to see your newest arrival. For now, check out our newest arrivals and congratulations in advance!

real talk with real moms nursing necessities

A couple days ago on our sister blog,, we asked 5 of our coworkers here at the office what they NEEDED for nursing and why. We work with a lot of women, which is not only inspiring, creative and amazing, but also it provides us with a lot of advice to work with! Our nursing room is equipped with a fridge, comfy chair and a place to store our supplies, but sometimes there’s that one item you just can’t seem to feed or pump (or live) without. See below for how those five real moms answered the question, “What nursing item was your holy grail and why?”

“The sleep bras are perfect. They are so comfortable, layer nicely under clothing and really help make breastfeeding easy, especially (and obviously) at night! I’m pretty sure I still sleep in one every night.” Joan, Senior Art Director

“I could not live without the clip down cami! It was my favorite lounge-around-the-house top. Then, with an open cardigan and leggings I was ready to go out. So easy and comfortable!” Nicole, Senior Web Merchandiser

“The full-busted seamless nursing bra was my favorite, because I felt that it provided more support and at times a little compression for me, since nursing/pumping breasts grow and decrease throughout the day. I also liked that I was able to sleep in it, since the material was smooth and of course seamless.” Daina, Editor/ Senior Copywriter

“While I’m all about breastfeeding loud and proud, sometimes I just wanted to be a bit more demure. I always made sure to put this nursing poncho in my diaper bag for those moments. You never know where you might be when your babe needs to eat, so it’s nice to give yourself the option to cover up!” Tara, Associate Creative Director of Content

“The nursing camis are truly the most worn item in my wardrobe.  I loved them while I was pregnant since it was easy to layer, comfortable and long enough to cover my bump. After delivery, I wore them in the hospital and to bed, as they provide easy access, while still offering just enough support.” Michelle, Online Marketing Manager

breast feeding

Since 2011, August has been recognized as National Breastfeeding Month. This year the theme is Charting the Course Together, “to ensure breastfeeding is incorporated into all relevant areas of the public health agenda.” If you would like to learn more, visit their website.

We are committed to charting the course with you and are dedicating August to breastfeeding from all angles. We will be coming to you with tips and tricks, nursing friendly outfit ideas and even some funny stories from fellow mamas. We are all in this together and sometimes we just need a good laugh about it all!

Let’s start with the basics – nursing essentials. We may be known for maternity clothing, but there is a reason our name is Motherhood. We have more than just nursing bras, including topsdressespajamas and accessories to make that transition smoother. And we don’t just stop at style. We have padsbalms, and more to keep you feeling your best.

We also partner with Aeroflow, a Durable Medical Equipment provider, which specializes in helping pregnant and nursing women qualify for free breast pumps through their insurance. A win, win all around!

Morning Sickness? Try the sweetest way to beat the nausea. Preggie Pop Drops

To celebrate the “holiday” we decided to dedicate a post to one of our best-selling, fan-favorite items… Preggie Pop Drops! Not only are they delicious, but they are MADE to help soothe that morning, aka all day, queasiness – without medication.

According to Three Lollies, the Pop Drop company, they were developed by healthcare professionals using essential oils. They say, “We use natural essences to flavor our Preggie Pops. For nausea caused by hypoglycemia, even the sugar and brown rice syrup in our pops can be effective. In fact, even the mode of delivery is therapeutic, as only a small amount is delivered to the stomach at a time.”  Side note: hypoglycemia is the fancy name for low blood sugar.

Essential oils have been used for centuries to combat everyday woes. Ginger has been said to curb nausea, just as mint has been known to help digestion. Of course, lavender is soothing and sour flavors like lemon and lime are claimed to create more saliva, which then coats the stomach and esophagus, easing the burn that sometimes causes nausea.

Why do we love them so much though? Because they are sweet, effective, gluten free, all natural and ready to be thrown in our purse or packed in our hospital bag. Those are just some of the reasons that this candy is so dandy! Why do you love them? Tell us @motherhoodmaternity.

blue denim

Let’s keep this short… quite literally. Nothing says summer style like letting your legs out in a pair of shorts, especially jean shorts. At this point, they’re not just classic, they’re iconic Americana.

We know our customers get HOT easily; blame the extra hormones or even the bump! That’s why our shorts are crucial for the maternity closet. With different waist bands like our exclusive Secret Fit Belly, which can be rolled up or down, or the underbelly, which is perfect for after baby too, we know our shorts are essential.

We want you to rock them everywhere, so they come in dark, medium and light wash. We sell plus size styles too. Some have destruction, crochet detailing, and designs. They even come in Bermuda length! Let your legs out, let the sun in and shop for your maternity shorts here.
