The Glitter Guide’s Caitlin Kruse on Her Pregnancy Essentials + Becoming a Mother

Guest Editor: Caitin Kruse, Editorial Director at The Glitter Guide

It sounds corny to say but I’ve always dreamed about becoming a mother and knew it was going to be the most important part of my life from a young age — so I honestly have a hard time believing it’s actually happening, and in 9 weeks! I know it will be the most challenging and fulfilling role of my life and I can’t wait to experience life through the eyes of a child and explore the world with her.

I’m pregnant with my first baby girl and couldn’t be more excited. Here I’m wearing an Isabella Oliver dress from A Pea in the Pod that I absolutely love! IMG_9625

I try to start my day by 6:30am since I’ve found myself to be most productive before 3pm in my third trimester — this allows me to get through the most difficult and time consuming tasks before my energy gets zapped!IMG_9567

I try to always keep our house full of fresh blooms and sneak out to Whole Foods for a lunch break at least once a week to pick them up. OOTD

Tip: Since becoming pregnant I’ve been living with a capsule wardrobe and love how easy it makes getting dressed in the morning. Easy basics that can be mixed and matched like this chambray tunic from Motherhood Maternity, white jeans, jersey dresses, simple blouses and cardigans fill my closet. IMG_9626

Here’s a few of my pregnancy nighttime essentials; This Zoe Organics belly butter is so great and I also love Mustela USA’s oil. The Glow also inspires me daily and I’ve had such a sweet tooth throughout my pregnancy, nightly ice cream is my treat.

Happy Mother’s Day to you all and don’t forget to share your own photos on Instagram and Twitter showing your excitement about becoming a mother too using the hashtag #happinessisontheway! -Caitlin

The Perfect Nautical Nursery

Nurseries To CraveA friend of mine just decorated her little boy’s nursery in an adorable nautical theme! She loves the beach and ocean, so she brought those earth and water tones into the room where she can spend time with her little one. I love the results and the theme! Nautical is a trend in interior and nursery design, in particular, that never gets old. It’s continually being updated with new elements. Nurseries To Crave

If you are thinking about trying this theme, remember to include lots of white to keep the room looking fresh and airy. Navy is a great neutral too; plus, it will transition well into a big kid’s room. Stripes, whales, anchors and sail boats make for perfect touches for this motif, whether on a pillow, wall mural or mobile. AND… for the final finisher, try choosing an accent color of light blue, yellow or even green for some fun and freshness. Baby’s layette and clothing will also go perfectly with this color palette, so it all works together. Happy decorating! -Olivia

Golden Nursery Inspiration

Well before my son came into my life I was forever switching up my interior décor. It’s a favorite past time of mine, maybe because I am a designer at heart. I constantly am keeping up with the latest in-home decor and always changing something. I absolutely loved decorating Grey’s nursery and since he’s now a toddler, I am still changing up the space to suit him. I did a Safari Theme for his nursery featuring giraffes and elephants, but I recently came across another nursery decor idea that I love just as much. Gold is a big element in the latest nursery design. I absolutely love how it can work for either a boy or girl too!Nurseries_3-608x1310Gold is quite chic against neutral colors like ivory and grey, plus it looks amazing with lighter shades like mint green or blush pink. To get the look just add gold frames, maybe a pillow, and sunburst mirror. If you aren’t finding the perfect gold mirror or picture frame, you can always purchase gold spray paint at your local hardware store and get a fabulous look at a fraction of the price. I also love the idea of putting a pair of baby booties in a picture box for an easy and cute wall art idea.  Freshly Picked has some of the cutest moccasins for showcasing, baby wearing, or for gifting.Nurseries_2-608x815

A great glider in your nursery is another must. I love the grey velvet one featured. It is similar to the glider we had for Greyson’s nursery. Now that he’s grown out of rocking time with mommy, we relocated the glider to my husband’s office and it works perfectly since it’s so neutral and doesn’t scream “BABY!”

To round out the nursery I also featured some of my favorite items for baby as well.  My picks are a cute baby coverall, Aden + Anais Swaddles, plush blanket and of course Sophie the Giraffe. I hope you enjoy decorating your baby’s nursery as much as I did.- Olivia
