The Glitter Guide’s Caitlin Kruse on Her Pregnancy Essentials + Becoming a Mother

Guest Editor: Caitin Kruse, Editorial Director at The Glitter Guide

It sounds corny to say but I’ve always dreamed about becoming a mother and knew it was going to be the most important part of my life from a young age — so I honestly have a hard time believing it’s actually happening, and in 9 weeks! I know it will be the most challenging and fulfilling role of my life and I can’t wait to experience life through the eyes of a child and explore the world with her.

I’m pregnant with my first baby girl and couldn’t be more excited. Here I’m wearing an Isabella Oliver dress from A Pea in the Pod that I absolutely love! IMG_9625

I try to start my day by 6:30am since I’ve found myself to be most productive before 3pm in my third trimester — this allows me to get through the most difficult and time consuming tasks before my energy gets zapped!IMG_9567

I try to always keep our house full of fresh blooms and sneak out to Whole Foods for a lunch break at least once a week to pick them up. OOTD

Tip: Since becoming pregnant I’ve been living with a capsule wardrobe and love how easy it makes getting dressed in the morning. Easy basics that can be mixed and matched like this chambray tunic from Motherhood Maternity, white jeans, jersey dresses, simple blouses and cardigans fill my closet. IMG_9626

Here’s a few of my pregnancy nighttime essentials; This Zoe Organics belly butter is so great and I also love Mustela USA’s oil. The Glow also inspires me daily and I’ve had such a sweet tooth throughout my pregnancy, nightly ice cream is my treat.

Happy Mother’s Day to you all and don’t forget to share your own photos on Instagram and Twitter showing your excitement about becoming a mother too using the hashtag #happinessisontheway! -Caitlin

Jessica Simpson Maternity Essentials

The Jessica Simpson Maternity Collection, available at Motherhood Maternity and Destination Maternity, looks fabulous for the holiday season! Dreamy dresses, soft florals and pretty pieces create an ultra-feminine look which really appeals to all women, especially [I think] those who are expecting.  What I love about the line is that it also boasts a great assortment of everyday maternity essentials.Jessica Simpson Maternity Right now with the colder weather the maternity puffer coat is a staple and Jessica’s version is warm and geared toward women in a soft neutral print. I think the belt really adds the perfect maternity touch and helps create a great shape. I also recommend pieces like the Secret Fit Belly® dark skinny maternity jean, maternity blazer and side-ruched tee since these are all silhouettes that can be worn throughout your whole pregnancy. You can mix and match all of these essentials for multiple outfit options in order to really get mileage out of your maternity wardrobe.

A soft and supportive bra is a must too.  The Jessica Simpson seamless nursing version is a customer favorite, since it’s so comfy and easy to use for breastfeeding. Don’t forget some classically chic accessories and a great maternity denim jacket, since these can really add some personality to your look and be worn after baby arrives as well! To see the full Jessica Simpson Maternity Collection check your local store for availability or visit us online. -Olivia

Top 10 Essentials for Mom-to-be

Lucky for me, during my pregnancy I had the fashion maternity world at my fingertips. I had the opportunity to try a lot of products, apparel and remedies for everything from stretch marks, to evening dresses. Although for many of us pregnancy has its downsides like nausea, aching back and swollen feet, it was a wonderful time for me, in part, because of some essential products that made my life easier. These are the things I couldn’t live without during those 9 months of pregnancy.

First, I absolutely adored the patented Secret Fit Belly® panel, with its seamless and comfy support. So, I lived in skinny jeans and ponte leggings! I also noticed that my skin became excessively dry during my pregnancy, and with normally very “dewy” skin, I needed hydration stat!  Mustela’s Ultimate Hydration moisturizer worked wonders for me. I also religiously used Mustela’s Stretch Mark cream.

I snacked on Kind Bars at work throughout the day, and could only wear super soft and stretchy bras and camis since my skin was so sensitive. I wanted that soft supportive layer under everything I wore! At the office, a little knit dress was my go-to since I could style it so many ways. I always suggest these pieces for any first time mom-to-be!1. Secret Fit Belly Maternity Leggings / 2. The Ultimate Hospital Bag Checklist

I always get asked from women, especially first time mamas-to-be, what are the hospital bag must haves. I need to admit that I had a huge hospital bag fail when I had my son- I majorly over packed! My mom still jokes with me that not only did I think I would be blowing out my hair the day after having a C-section, but I also thought I’d be using my straightening iron as well. However, as clueless I was, I did hear from my nurses that I had the cutest hospital ensemble, plus I was totally prepared with the right bras, layering clothes and beauty products! With that, I give you my edited version of the essentials you’ll need to get you through your hospital or birth center stay:Maternity Hospital BagMaternity Hospital Bag EssentialsHospital Bag Essentials1.
