Holiday Gift Ideas for Mom-to-be

This year the holidays really crept up on me! I’ve been so busy with writing the blog, attending events and spending time with my husband and son that I somehow lost a whole week! Talk about total mommy-brain. I honestly thought there was an extra weekend before Thanksgiving and that I would get everything on my do-list completed. But then I was reminded by my brother-in-law who texted me last week talking about our plans for Thanksgiving dinner. Life is just speeding by! I promptly reevaluated my schedule and luckily got back on course. This means holiday shopping moves to the top of my list, because I always get started the weekend after Thanksgiving- hello Black Friday!Black Friday ShoppingIf you know any moms-to-be or need some help giving others ideas of what to get you, here’s a quick snapshot of some of my favorite holiday pieces (look for a full gift-guide for moms-to-be later this week.) Trend Alert // Party Pants

Maternity Party PantsMaternity Party PantsMaternity Party PantsNovel skinny maternity jeans and maternity pants are hot for the holidays! Coated jeans, animal prints, leather and lacey looks are keeping skinnies fresh and fun for the season. The trick to getting this look right is to keep the pant silhouette simple, pair it with a monochromatic top or sweater, and keep accessories down to a minimal. In other words… make the pant the signature piece in your look.

If you are opting for a print, try a maternity bottom in a bi-color or neutral pattern that comes in a smaller scale. The pair featured by Rebecca Minkoff Maternity and Pam and Gela for A Pea in the Pod (they created Juicy Couture!) are great options. And to get a luxe leather look opt for DL1961’s coated maternity jeans. Pair those with a chunky sweater, maybe a bootie and you have a great holiday look. -Olivia

What to Wear, Where // Brunch

Going out to brunch on the weekend is a favorite outing of mine. Many times my husband and I will take Greyson to his favorite 1950’s diner in our neighborhood, The Pop Shop. It has a kid-friendly atmosphere with an awesome home-style brunch menu featuring gourmet pancakes and inventive sandwiches. If I’m not with the boys I love to head out with my girlfriends on the weekend for a ladies’ brunch. A cappuccino and croissant are the perfect start (or end) to a weekend catching up with friends and family. What To Wear To BrunchI think an early Sunday brunch is easier for my friends and me now that we have children. Or at least, we try harder to attend them now, especially since we have such full lives- it’s great to relax a little. We leave the babes with their daddies and still make it home early enough to enjoy a full day of family fun. Choosing what to wear is always an important element, because brunch lends itself to being not too dressy, not too casual. It can be a difficult balance to strike for all women, but definitely expecting women. What To Wear To BrunchThis time of year a great maternity skinny jean and leather jacket are perfect pieces for expecting mamas for an early afternoon away from home.  A fun novel maternity top with a smoothing seamless maternity camisole offer a cheeky look with some maternity jeans and jacket. A stocky heel or even a cool platform bootie, plus a cute midsize messenger bag and chunky ring also dress up this downtown look. And don’t forget to throw your mama moisturizer in your bag before heading out! Keeping hydrated during pregnancy is important, so I always recommend keeping your favorite lotion with you at all times. Try Vitamin C Revitalizing Lotion By Naturopathica. Here’s to a stylish Sunday Brunch! -Olivia

In The Press October 2014

It has been a busy few months here at Destination Maternity! We’ve had a lot of great new collaborations and exciting events. We launched our Wendy Bellissimo Maternity Line, followed by a fabulous party at our Destination Maternity store in September. Dita Von Teese joined our team and partnered with our brand to bring an amazing assortment of lingerie for new moms called Von Follies. And just this past month, we also brought Rebecca Minkoff’s Maternity Collection to our stores as well. Magazines and style-based websites like People, Pop Sugar, InSTYLE, Fit Pregnancy and prominent fashion bloggers took notice. I am happy that our vast assortments of pregnancy clothing and maternity collections have gotten such great reviews. Take a look for yourself and visit back to the blog each month for more exciting maternity news. -OliviaInThePress-2_608x925 InThePress-3_608x825InThePress-4_608x443InThePress-5_608x920

Chic This Week // The Tuxedo Jacket

Maternity Style Tuxedo JacketThe tuxedo jacket is a new silhouette for fall that I know I am going to love incorporating into the holidays. A great tuxedo style maternity jacket is a quintessential piece in any woman’s wardrobe, BUT it looks especially chic on a pregnant woman. Why you ask? Well, menswear styling is the perfect balance with a baby bump. The tailored look, mixed with the sharp cut and slight flare accent, define and yet camouflage the belly. It’s also a great layering item that can be dressed up with black maternity skinnies or dressed down with your favorite Secret Fit Belly® maternity denim. The options are endless.- Olivia

Chic This Week // Winter Florals

ChicthisweekFlorals are fresh for fall and add warmth to winter style. Look for abstract flower patterns with a color palette that works for your personality, and the maternity basics you already own. Since florals are a fashion staple, they’ll live on into a new season, which I love. Deep blooms work well at camouflaging and flattering the bump. Another trick to keep in mind when styling a floral is pairing this feminine print with something edgier, like a dark legging or destructed jean. It balances out the sweetness of the print and makes for a cooler maternity look. Happy styling -Olivia

Royal Maternity Style

Séraphine is a fabulous line we carry as part of our A Pea in the Pod collection. The classic yet feminine pieces have become a favorite of mine! When I was pregnant I lived in chic knit maternity dresses, especially ones that I could style different ways. The “desk to dinner” versatility was extremely important to me, since I was (and still am) always on the go. What I love about the Seraphine line is that it’s a maternity collection with elegant appeal. The soft draping and no fuss prints will never really go out of style; plus, they work well to flatter the bump.  Since the silhouettes are so forgiving, they are also great transitional pieces for after baby is born. The Seraphine Collection has a royal look to it, much like when you see the Duchess’ fashion choices. She always portrays regal grace in fitted dresses, crisp lines and clean looks. She knows how to accessorize without overdoing it, always choosing simple clutches and ladylike heels. Like Séraphine, her noble style is timeless.  –Olivia

Sunday Football Style

nfl1 nfl2Sundays in my house are reserved for family time. In the fall that means walks in the park and downtime at home cooking for guests. Of course, Sundays in the fall also almost always include football. Someone will usually have the game on, and though while I’m not a huge football fan, I absolutely love the atmosphere of an autumn afternoon cheering, socializing and enjoying that time with family and friends. In fact, I really love that I have that opportunity to get in the spirit and dress the part with Grey. If you are like me, you can get in the spirit too, since Destination Maternity is now carrying NFL maternity tees! Moms-to-be can sport their bump and their NFL team pride in our specially designed maternity tees. Style them on game-day with a destructed skinny, cute hoodie, cap and some slip-on sneakers for a perfect fan-worthy look. -Olivia
