Celebrating the Launch of Rachel Zoe Collection for A Pea in the Pod

Rachel_Zoe_Event_Recap_1-608x571 Rachel_Zoe_Event_Recap_2-608x529Last weekend, we celebrated our exclusive collection with style maven Rachel Zoe by throwing shopping celebrations in select A Pea in the Pod and Destination Maternity stores throughout the country. While shopping, guests enjoyed macarons from Dana’s Bakery personalized with our hashtag #RachelZoexAPIP in flavors like chocolate molten and jelly doughnut- YUM! Décor included all white floral arrangements with peeled back roses and hydrangeas (Rachel’s favorites).

I had the pleasure of hosting two of the events in sunny Aventura and Coral Gables, Florida.   It was so much fun to meet with clients and introduce them to the collection!  I was able to advise on the best ways to style the bump while helping the expecting moms-to-be shop for their maternity essentials and wardrobe.Rachel_Zoe_Event_RecapBottom_608x1100Los Angeles-based blogger Leanne Barlow hosted the event in Beverly Hills and looked GORGEOUS in the Rachel Zoe Printed Caftan Maternity Dress.

Bloggers Nicole Gonzalez of Lillies and Leon, who also donned the caftan, and Staci Acquasanta of Leather and Leops, who rocked the Rachel Zoe Exposed Zipper Maternity Mini Dress, hosted the event in New York.  Plus, DreamDry,the premier blowdry and styling salon co-founded by Rachel, held a braid bar to add even more boho-chic flair.

Don’t fret if you missed our events!  The collection is available online and in stores.

Hope to see you at our future shopping events!  Xoxo- Olivia

Rachel Zoe Maternity Collection

Rachel Zoe for A Pea in the Pod Rachel Zoe for A Pea in the PodNow that we’ve officially announced our new line with Rachel Zoe, I am so excited to fill you in on what happened behind-the-scenes at our shoot at Smashbox Studios in LA back in January! I met the always glamorous Rachel (who did not disappoint in a classic black fur vest and 70’s flares!) and chatted with her about her first-ever maternity collection.Rachel Zoe for A Pea in the PodRachel’s outfit seemed especially fitting when she let us know that the ’70s were her inspiration in designing the maternity collection for A Pea in the Pod. The effortless chic and glamour that categorized the era is sure to resonate with moms-to-be like Rachel who have to do it all with not a lot of time.

My son Greyson is close in age to Rachel’s two children so we had a few stories about our lovable and energetic boys to share. As another working mom in the fashion industry, I am especially inspired by Rachel’s ability to balance her work and love of fashion with motherhood….plus did I mention she’s a blast to hang out with?Rachel Zoe for A Pea in the PodTake a look for yourself and watch the video and then head over to our site to sign up to be among the first to shop her collection, available this March. –Olivia

Trend Alert // Sports Luxe Style

TrendAlert-ActiveWear_1-608x560 TrendAlert-ActiveWear_2-608x500 TrendAlert-ActiveWear_3-608x762Active apparel is a big trend right now that is inspiring both ready-to-wear and designer style alike.  In maternity, the trend is giving a fresh take to work-out wear with comfort crafted right in. Active separates are designed in supportive and soft fabrics that are not only perfect for the gym, but cool enough for an everyday maternity look.

Whether you are a pilates guru, runner or spinning lover, layering maternity tanks, jackets, leggings and yoga pants is a maternity must. I always had a few black yoga pants in different leg shapes in my closet when I was pregnant; I would layer up with an array of tops and sweatshirts. As a yoga lover, I wish we carried our Beyond the Bump by Beyond Yoga line when I was pregnant. Available on-line and in-stores at Destination Maternity and A Pea in the Pod, this yoga collection is crafted from great fabrics and made in a multitude of colors that can be worn before and after baby.

I also suggest adding in pops of brightness to your maternity fitness wardrobe too; it makes working out more fun when you look good, thus feel good. In our Motherhood Maternity collection, the soft neon palette is totally of-the-moment! AND remember to start with the right foundations. A seamless maternity sports bra and panty offer added support and comfort. Complete your sporty look with a pair of Nike trainers and you are working out in style. -Olivia

Chic This Week // PAM+GELA

Pam and Gela for A Pea in the PodSince Pam and Gela for A Pea in the Pod launched in stores and online, I’ve been obsessed with the maternity collection. You don’t even need to be pregnant to wear it- example, I live in chic sweatshirts and soft joggers on the weekends (sometimes even style them for work!) and the separates from the line are just bananas! My favorite is the cold shoulder sweatshirt since it does double duty. Take it out with leather leggings and a stand-out heel. I really do love all of the pieces for expecting mamas (and new moms too!) Check out the full collection available online and in stores at A Pea in the Pod and Destination Maternity. – Olivia

Q+A with Blogger LoveJooKim

Love Joo Kim Love Joo KimFashion blogger, foodie and mom-to-be Joo Kim of lovejookim.com has been in my fashion line-up of style influencers for some time. I love her casual downtown vibe and could totally live in her closet. She is a serious foodie too, so it’s just as much fun following her food travels as well as her outfits!

Now that she’s expecting, she’s been working pieces from A Pea in the Pod, Motherhood Maternity and Jessica Simpson Maternity into her wardrobe. The results are amazing! Joo is a huge fan of our Secret Fit Belly® jeans; she chose our DL1961 maternity jeans to style in her 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Now that she’s nearing the end of her pregnancy, I had the chance to ask her a few questions about how she’s been maintaining her effortless look. -Olivia

What are some of your favorite maternity essentials now that you are in your 3rd trimester? My favorite maternity essential is a good pair of jeans and a comfy cardigan; they are literally my everyday go-to pieces. Accessories are really important during this pregnancy, since my outfits are more basic, and then I accessorize to give my outfit that little oomph it needs!

How did you keep your sense of style throughout your pregnancy? I think the important thing is to try wearing things you would normally wear when you’re not pregnant. I stuck to a lot of basic dresses and paired them with chunky scarves and booties – accessorize your look and get more mileage out of your outfit!

How has your beauty routine changed now that you are expecting? It’s pretty much the same. I’ve added a couple more steps like applying my belly cream and oils after my face routine. I don’t do face packs anymore, just to be safe. I would say the most important thing I do is try to hydrate myself a lot more by remembering to drink water.

Since wearing your Secret Fit Belly® jeans, tell us why you love the fit and if you plan on wearing them later after baby. I absolutely loooove the fit. Secret Fit Belly® jeans are amazing; I never knew there was such a thing for pregnant women – serious lifesaver. Especially during the colder months, a good pair of jeans is so important! The color and wash of the jeans are so chic that I probably will continue to wear them after my pregnancy for as long as I can.

Stylish Winter Maternity Staples

Winter Maternity Staples Every Expecting Modern Mom Should HaveWinter Maternity Staples Every Expecting Modern Mom Should HaveWe’ve seen our first snowfall this week here in the tri-state area (North East!) One of the few good things that come with a winter chill is that you need a new cold weather wardrobe! That means layers are a must. But… it shouldn’t mean that your style has to suffer when you’re expecting. The trick to maternity dressing, in general, is to start with a great any-season foundation and add on signature pieces that work for the weather, plus that speak to your style. I’ve put together some chic maternity staples that will keep you warm and looking your best. PLUS, many of the pieces can easily transition into the spring, so you’ll get tons of maternity style mileage from your wardrobe.

Start with a Secret Fit Belly® denim legging. It’s versatile and comfortable, especially with the smoothing support of the stretchy panel over your bump. The dark wash can be styled up or down for a more casual look. A classic shirt, designed just for your growing shape, is another maternity essential that can be easily layered for the winter and then restyled into spring. Add a cashmere maternity poncho like this Isabella Oliver Maternity one for a chic layered look that’s perfect for the season.

Accessorizing is a must! It’s a great way to complete your look by showcasing your own personal touch. A scarf and a warm wool hat add practical fashion. I’m also loving cross- body bags right now and dark nail lacquer like Butter’s LaMoss; this shade is completely of-the-moment, considering a deep MARSALA red is the pantone color of the year!

For a fresh fun touch add in some metallic or sparkle. A shiny layering tee or rose gold watch (loving this Marc Jacobs version) can easily freshen up a winter look, but also transition into spring. These next versatile pieces round out my list for stylish winter must-haves for mamas: a great chunky cardi and an all-weather parka!

Happy Styling -Olivia

What to Wear, Where // New Years Eve

If you are anything like me, then you are already probably thinking about what you’ll be wearing for your New Year‘s Eve plans. My husband and I have come to the decision that it might be nice to switch off every year going forward between celebrating with family and date night alone. That means this year we are spending the night out in the city just the two of us while our son stays with Mimi and Poppi. That also means I need to find an outfit. I thought this would be the perfect time to give you guys some ideas too!W2WW-NewYears2015_2-608x759For New Year’s Eve I love a clean palette of black, white, gold, nudes and even a pop of red to salute the end of the holiday season. A LB(M)D, aka the Little Black Maternity Dress, is an easy option that is always appropriate. I love ones with special details like a jewel neckline for added sparkle. Plus, the detail at the neckline highlights your bust-line and keeps the bling away from the bump, unlike a non-maternity style.

If you are going black tie, a sleek black maternity gown can be gorgeous. Or, for a fashion-forward look, choose the silk pant, which is the silhouette of the season. Pair it with a simple silk maternity top and black blazer to create a chic alternative to a dress.W2WW-NewYears2015_3-608x525Pile on the style with the right extras too. I always start with a fresh face, and that means making sure you have the right foundation. A little self-tanner or bronzer also enhances your pregnancy glow, brightening you right up. Finish off your face with a smoky- eye and mascara. Now, make sure to add some sparkle to the rest of your look!

A shimmer heel, cocktail ring or (sigh) Chanel classic earrings are the perfect additions. I also suggest, especially when expecting, to choose your accessories wisely. Pick one area to highlight to keep your look chic and effortless. If you go with a sparkly heel, keep the rest of your jewelry small or minimal. Maybe add a red lip, but then down-play your eyes. If you’re showing a little leg, then keep your neckline on the modest side.W2WW-NewYears2015_4-608x720Hope you preggonistas find some great style ideas for your New Year’s plans. And if you are staying in, there’s always next year! -Olivia

Trend Alert // Black + White

Black & White Maternity StyleBlack & White Maternity StyleBlack & White Maternity StylePairing black with white is a fashion classic and done in the right way, it’s perfectly posh. For maternity it means you get tons of style mileage out of each of the pieces. But, when worn together, this pairing gives a chic graphic effect that camouflages and dresses up the bump.

Wearing white on top with a black bottom creates a slimming silhouette. Choose the statement blazer of the season, the Maternity Tuxedo Jacket and wear it over a black tee to get the perfect proportion while keeping you looking long and lean. The maternity tuxedo, when buttoned up above your bump, offers a nice shape; worn open, it creates a vertical slimming effect, especially when paired with all black.

Similarly, choosing a white embellished top, like the one shown from our Rebecca Minkoff Maternity line, flatters your bump. The black trim highlights your neckline and is perfect with a graphic printed maternity pant or skirt. Throw a black blazer over the look, even pair with a basic skinny and again, you have a nice long and lean maternity look.

The proportion is key when you are dressing your bump! Always look for maternity pieces since they are designed with your new shape in mind. They are created at the right length or cut-away shape to work with your figure!  Last, as always, accessorizing can be a fun way to hit on the latest trends to complete a look. I am loving the graphic black and white palette happening in the extras right now! A dark nail (like our Butter London Nail Polish), embellished heel or colorblock bag are statement makers on their own, but easily can be worked into your existing wardrobe. Happy styling! -Olivia

Jessica Simpson Maternity Holiday 2014

As you know the Jessica Simpson Maternity Collection, available at Motherhood Maternity® and Destination Maternity®, is one of my favorites! I think Jessica’s holiday styles truly evoke her feminine sensibility as a woman and mother. She echoed this sentiment in a quote that I love, “I feel stronger than ever, and Eric’s unconditional love has been a reminder of the love I should give myself.” Loving yourself while you are pregnant is important and looking good is part of that, right?  So here’s a few looks that can get you looking and feeling pretty and feminine for the holidays.Jessica Simpson MaternityFloaty dresses or femme floral sheaths are great maternity options for a special occasion. Or, get a similar look from a chiffon top, maternity skinny and tweed jacket, all from the Jessica Simpson Maternity Collection. It’s important not to forget the details either. With the right “foundation” like a seamless bra and lace panty, you can start off feeling comfortable and in control. All of the Jessica Simpson bras and panties are designed to offer simple, soft support for expecting and new moms. They also still provide a pretty touch.

Complete your holiday look with some daring accessories that definitely would be Jessica Simpson approved: a dramatic bracelet, cheetah clutch and a sweet heel to give you a little glam while you are expecting.  -OliviaJessica Simpson Maternity Jessica Simpson MaternityJessica Simpson Chiffon Maternity Dress  // Jessica Simpson Floral Maternity Dress // Jessica Simpson Zipper Pocket Maternity Jacket, Uneven Hem Maternity Blouse, Secret Fit Belly® Jean  // Jessica Simpson Seamless Clip Down Nursing Bra  // Jessica Simpson Lace Maternity Bikini  // Jessica Simpson Statement Cuff // Jessica Simpson Lace Heel
